Is it cheating if... Topic

I have a DIII team and I'm planning on moving up to DII next season.  I've been looking at DII teams that are open, or found were opening up based on coaches posts.  So I know which team I want to take over, but obviously no guarantee I get the job.  I have money left over from my DIII team's recruiting last season, which I have full rights to.  Is it cheating to FSS a state near the team I want to take over with my DIII team's money, so that I can save money when I move to DII?

I'd say if it's a state you were potentially going to FSS, then no it's not cheating.  If you had no plans to FSS that state....might be flirting with a gray area.

Just my opinion.

I just wouldn't do it.

I don't have a problem with this honestly... It's his leftover recruiting money.

not cheating whatsoever

it's your cash. use it or loose it :-)

I have done this once. Team I was going to take over only had one open scholarship and needed some cuts, so that extra FSS was nice. Obviously, I don't think it's cheating. It's your money, and you're not using FSS to benefit yourself twice.

I don't think it's cheating, but it is morally grey enough that I don't think I would do it personally.

Not cheating, not even morally grey, IMHO.  You're the one taking the risk that you wont get the job and might be stuck having spent money on states that would have been better applied elsewhere.

The only way this could be an issue would be that your actions would be to the detriment of the incoming coach for the next season at the D3 school that you are leaving.  However, I don't think that new coach would have received your remaining cash and I don't think the FSS that you purchase would remain available to the a potential incoming coach either (someone correct me if I am wrong on either of these).

the only place a grey area could be argued, IMO, is because according to WIS, a coach has a responsibility to act in the best interests of his team, and if he does not, he can be removed.

that said, i dont see a problem with it, personally.

Not cheating, it's your money, from your one team.

This isn't even close to cheating.

Agreed.

Have done it, will do it and encourage all to do the same.

does the FSS stay for a new coach? I almost think it does. I'm pretty much ok with this scenario, but it does seem to be against the spirit of best interest for the current team concept...that said, I do not think it constitutes any violation of the Fair Play Guidelines.
