I am finally making my way back to HD and will be taking over the following team in Knight when the next season rolls around... things went after filling that many vacancies.

11 open scholarships at D2 Davis & Elkins and I'm excited to build this Senators program from scratch, basically. Going to be changing the Triangle to either the Motion or Flex and running a M2M defense (I think). Has anyone else ever had that many spots to fill? I'm curious as to how things went after filling that many vacancies.

I'm in the middle of recruiting a class of 8 at D-2 Fort Hays State in Tark. It's been an eye-opening experience, that's for sure. The biggest thing I'd do differently, is I'd wait longer before spending a lot of my cash on hand. I ended up "settling" for a couple of signable guys, just because I was getting low on cash, which really hurt me once a few potential "drop-downs" showed up that I didn't have the cash to fight for.

My first BCS experience was to take over Washington St. in Phelan a few seasons back and I had 11 openings (the one senior I wouldn't even keep for a D3 team but I didn't want to try and fill in all 12 spots).

Needless to say running in a BCS conference with a roster full of freshmen/new recruits resulted in a 3-24 record.  The following season improved to 12-16 and then went to the S16 in the 3rd season.

After a long and tiring recruiting process, this is what Davis & Elkins now looks like:

In the beginning I was not going to keep the Triangle offense, but was able to find a few JUCO's in Labbe and Espiritu that knew it and had some good potentials, so I signed them and kept the offense as is. I signed a frosh PG (Lovejoy) that is high-high in DEF/PER/BH/PASS that will get RS'ed. The lone returning PF (Payne) will start, and I found a solid JUCO post player that knows the "O" and he'll start at the C.  All-in-all four of my 5 starters know the Triangle, with Ronnie Finlay starting at the SF grading at an "F". Some of the frosh may not look like much, but all have solid potentials and fill out the roster nicely. I now have 2 SR's, 4 JR's, 1 Soph and 5 frosh, one of which will get the RS. Not an ideal class structure but it'll have to work, especially since we're playing 8 humans in non-con.
