First off, the RPI is not what determines the postseason seedlings. That's the Projection Report, of which RPI is just one component, and one currently being debated in another thread right now if it has that much significance. Next, understand the difference between the game and real life. Many of those losing record teams in the PIT are good teams from stacked all human or mostly human coached conferences. Those teams many times are stronger than many AQ teams that won high sim conferences. Do not penalize humans for actually wanting to compete against other humans. My highest rated D3 team ever was one of those losing record PIT teams thanks to an injury in the non con and a schedule that I had loaded to the extreme. In real life the proportion of non con to conference games is closer to 50/50 than What Ifs pattern of 10 and 16 so in real life it's easier for a lower team in a major conference to get to .500 through scheduling. Even in major conferences in real life there is some disparity among top to bottom in teams. In What If the recruiting dynamics allow for all human conferences to be stacked top to bottom with postseason talent if you get the right group together in your league. It might be the most realistic sim, but it is still just a sim. There are differences between it and the real world and some of those are good for the game and it's business model. This, I would argue, is one of them.
