I've been at Oberlin (Knight D3) since season 12 and we just finished up season 65. If my math is correct that's a lot of time at one school and frankly, I'm getting the itch for something different. One of my dream D2 jobs is open and I'm seriously looking at it, even though my D3 squad could probably beat them. Has anyone on here moved up/on after 50+ seasons to another school?  I have Oberlin at an A+ after an Elite 8 run and the school I'm looking at is a D2 C-.  Here are the 2 problems I'm having: 1) The initial shock of leaving Oberlin after all this time, even for a "dream" job. 2) The application deadline is tonight and I would hate to leave Oberlin open to a newbie. The itch to move on hit me this morning-if it had happened earlier in the jobs process Oberlin would hopefully have been taken over by a quality human Coach. If I knew my Yeomen would be in good hands I would make the jump.

Has anyone else been in the same boat?  Any thoughts/advice/comments would be appreciated.

I was at Roanoke in Tark for 40 seasons, so not as long as you were at Oberlin, but it started to get stale and I decided to make the jump up to D1.  I'm in my 4th season post-move and I'm happy with it.  It gave me a new and exiting challenge and really increased my enjoyment of the game.

Not 40 seasons (that's one hell of a tenure) but I was at Abilene Christian (Smith) for 20 before I moved up to D1.

You do get an emotional attachment to a team after a while, but if you're itching ---- and I understand that itch --- you need to pick your destination and just do it.  Don't look back.  Even if your new team is crap right away, you have the coaching experience to turn it around.

I had an A+ and a NC at Abilene during those years. I liked D2 so much that after I left ACU for BYU D1, I went back to my old server (Naismith) and picked up a mediocre D2 squad just to play with.  Took my lumps that first season (15-13) and I'm taking my lumps at BYU too, but the fun for me is in building my own program.

Go for it.

I was at Nebraska Wesleyan for 18 seasons and it was really tough to leave. One of the driving factors of making a jump to D2 was the GLV conference and a full conference as opposed to being in a empty D3 conference.

It is best to just make the jump and rip off the band aid.
