About to have my first draft in which I have the #2 overall pick. Its not the strongest of classes but here's who I'm trying to decide between.

Pitcher B...18 years old

current: stam 55 cont 59 vl 43 vr 35 vel 73 gbfb 73 pitches 66 63 37 25
project: stam 64 cont 96 vl 76 vr 63 vel 92 gbfb 99 pitches 84 84 54 44

Player A...21 years old

current: fielding 71 63 71 56 hitting 56 54 64 65 65
project: fielding 85 78 88 75 hitting 61 66 77 85 85

Catcher A...18 years old

Any recommendations on who to rank 1, 2 in case the first is taken with the #1 pick?

None of them are particularly satisfactory, as you have already realized.  They're close enough to each other that durability, health, makeup, and demands could play a major role.

Assuming, for example, thaqt both pitchers have DUR of about 25 and health of at least 60, that player A throws righthanded and has a DUR of at least 75, that the catchers both have DUR in the 70s, and that they're all "looking to sign," I'd take catcher B followed by player A.  But those are huge assumptions.

Catcher prospects are intriguing to me. Most teams don't have a great or even very good one. That catcher B looks like he could end up being pretty sexy. Does he have any kind of red flags like low durability or low health, or poor mental attributes?  Pitcher B looks like he could be fun, also.  If you're in the NL, his low stamina is less of a factor because you're usually going to be pinch-hitting for him in the middle of games anyways. Also, it would matter to me if his durability was high (>30) or low (<25), and health of course, and mental attributes I guess. What are your scouting budgets

I'd ignore the projected to a point as I only have six in advanced scouting, six in high school and 13 in college.  I'm probably missing one or two big guys as a result. We are an NL team.

Pitcher A Right handed
Current: 31 durab 71 health 79 makeup
Projected: 33 durab 84 health 94 makeup

Pitcher B Left Handed
Current: 24 durab 91 health 70 makeup
Projected: 25 durab 95 health 75 makeup

Player A Right Handed
Current:78 durab 76 health 91 makeup
Projected: 89 durab 88 health 100 makeup

Catcher A RHH
Current: 46 durab 59 health 61 makeup
Projected: 72 durab 62 health 74 makeup

Catcher B LHH
Current: 52 durab 64 health 30 makeup
Projected: 66 durab 78 health 30 makeup

I do like the catcher's bats, but potentially low durab/health and especially makeup for catcher B worries me. I like these secondary stats for the pitchers, especially pitcher A because he is also right handed. Just looking for thoughts still.

Catcher B was my favorite based on his combo of defense and hitting ratings but the other numbers made me second guess.

To my eye, Catcher B, Player A, and Pitcher A are all about equal, and just a touch better than Pitcher B and Catcher B.  They're still all pretty close.  If any of them are hard signs (may sign, undecided, or probably won't sign) I'd knock them down to the bottom of the list; none of these is worth paying $7M for if you can get one of the others for $4M.

Hmm, to me they definitely all have their drawbacks, none of them are perfect for sure. What stands out to me is your ratio of high school scouting to college scouting. (Also, to my knowledge, advanced scouting will not factor in at this point until after they are drafted, correct?) So this leads me to believe that the projections for pitcher A, player A, and probably also catcher B are likely to be wildly inaccurate, whereas pitcher B and catcher A might have more realistic projected outcomes. I would look for players in your world who started off with similar Current attributes and gauge how their natural progressions trended over their first 3 seasons. Maybe it's better to just ignore Potential altogether... Player A (the hitting SS) is probably the safest, pitcher B / pitcher A in either order would be my next favorites and then catcher B followed by catcher A, I guess. Can never have too much pitching?

Advanced scouting doesn't show until after players are drafted. The projections you're seeing are based on your HS and College budgets. For that reason, projections based on 6 million HS scouting are likely wildly optimistic. Also, given the catchers' DUR/HEA combos, I would guess they likely can't get to those projections.

So for me its Player A then Pitcher A. They might not hit their projections either, but I think Player A has a better chance, which would make him a decent 2B or maybe even 3B. Wish he had more bat, but to me he looks like the safer bet. I like the pitcher fine, but I think the projections on him are too optimistic.

Off topic I know, but I have say it - if you have the second overall pick, you need to max your draft scouting. To not do so is a waste of the opportunity.

Considering your 6 for HS scouting, I'd stay away from HS prospects.

Sorry I said that backwards. It's 13 high school and 6 college.

For me it comes down to the catchers here. Pitcher A won't hit his projections. Pitcher B's splits are mediocre and he has low stam/dur for a starter. IMO, Player A's hitting won't be good enough for a 2B/3B (although he would be interesting with high Speed/BR stats).

Catcher B has the much more desired offensive and defensive stats, but will be a risky pick due to lower health/makeup. I think this will prevent him from getting too close to his projections, so go with Catcher A

The easy answer is Catcher B.   However, with the revelation of 6m in college, I don't think  so.   I don't think either 18 y/o is worthy of the #2 pick but I'd take the catcher.    63 VR is slightly below average for a BL pitcher.   And he likely won't get that.   That said, the catcher's PC isn't likely to hit 65 either so, if you're not comfortable with high 50s PC, he's not an answer either.

I'm with Mike.  With your College Scouting budget, I wouldn't pick any of the college guys.  Catcher A will be a very fine player.  You can probably get about 115 starts at 100% out of him.  Pair him with a guy who hits lefties and just straight platoon them.  He will hit close to .315-.320 MOST years....and go well above that some.  And he does it with pop.  Pitcher B is nice, but not dominant.
