Had a guy interested in me. I need to redshirt to balance classes out.. He was considering me. Then I sent a HV and informed of redshirt. He said I'm crazy and now not interested. Any chance I can get him back without taking redshirt off him and sending a couple more HV to change his mind? Any Hope or lost cause?

Usually a couple more HV gets the job done - as long as nobody else jumps in.

The first lesson is NEVER inform of redshirt...Other people may tell differently, but it has only hurt my recruiting efforts. You can still redshirt the guys once they are at your school, and almost all will accept a redshirt, but informing has only ever made it so I couldn't get that player. That being said, I haven't ever come back from a guy dropping me for informing them of redshirt, and I'd be interested to know if what you try works.

If you are going to inform of RS you should send multiple HV's or CV's (I think the number of CV's or HV's needed depends on your current prestige) to cancel out the negative impact of the RS. I've informed of RS plenty of times and this usually works - although I wouldn't do it if there's a good chance I end up in a battle for the player.

I have an A prestige. We will see what happens. After 15 yrs coaching I've had 4-5 not like the rs as artie mentioned. Usually the next guy on the list takes it. This time i can't chance he'd say no when he comes

Inform of RS is funny sometimes. Some guys just won't accept it - but I still have them at least on my considering list because I send extra effort with the inform of RS - some guys will stop considering you - then magically reappear the next cycle or cycle after that - with no effort.

With 12-man rosters, 2 positions will be 3-deep. In the situation where a player at a given position has two players at the same position with better ratings than him, the recruit will nearly always accept the RS without being informed. But not always. And my observation excludes multi-starred players with sights set on the NBA.

The two players above the recruit on the depth chart need to be listed at the same position as the recruit for the almost-automatic acceptance to be assured.

I have had success sending several HV's with a notice of RS. They typically scream, stop considering, then come back when the added recruiting efforts (I add a couple more HV's the next cycle too) take effect. But it can be risky when your recruit is likely being wooed by other teams. For that reason, I try my luck with not-informing and, if they freak out, remove the RS.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll never know now as another team jumped on him this last cycle. I'll be really ticked if he can RS him. lol.

I had a guy considering me, and was deciding between whether to redshirt him or not so I informed him of it and got the same reaction you did. But I uninformed him and sent a HV I think and then 2 cycles later he committed. So it's definitely possible if it happens. Along with some of the other comments I recruited a player the year before who would have been the 3rd best shooting guard on my team, behind a fellow freshman and a sophomore, but he accepted the redshirt at the beginning of the season without being informed. So I think that's the better route to go.
