Best categories to look at when evaluating a playe Topic

I'm new to the game and want to know what I should be looking at when I look at a players ratings. Any help would be appreciated.

Look at last seasons league leaders & all stars, Look at the players on the 4 best teams in the world. And the 4 worst. Make notes on raring pattern that result in good stats & winning teams. And bad stats & bad teams. Do that for 3-4 worlds and you'll be fine. You'll make some rookie mistakes. Everyone does.

That's not bad advice but pay attention to the park effects.   Some one dimensional players can put up good numbers in the right park.

Pretty much every rating matters.  But if you're just going to focus on a few,  focus on:

Position players: the splits (vLHP and vRHP) and power
Pitchers: the splits (vLHB and vRHB), control, and pitches 1 & 2

I'd go a step further on maxdeardorff's advice. Look at ALL of the pitch ratings. Pitchers with great pitch 1 and 2 could be derailed by terrible 3, 4, and 5. I also like high GB/FB ratings, but then again I like groundball pitchers backed up by a stellar defense.
