Will he develop? Not a WE thread Topic

I just recruited Jason Paul on my Worcester st team. http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Default.aspx?pid=2686359

He is high high in athleticism, low post, perimeter, ball handling, passing, and stamina. He is high n defense but I never got his potential back from scouting trips. He has average potential in rebounding and speed.

I can't afford to red shirt him this season because I have two walk ons, but I may try to when he is a sophomore. I plan on zeroing out his rebounding, but I'm not sure hat else to do otherwise. Completely disregard low post for a while? Develop his ball handling and passing and make him a "true " point guard? Go after his perimeter just to see what kind of high high potential he has?

There are lots of options, what say ye?

Get rid of low post and rebounding, focus on speed, ath, bh, passing......when those gradually turn to red perimeter then the rest

its what I would do

Well what do you need? Looking at your team this guy is blocked by older players until his senior year, unless he just improves a ton more than them, certainly possible with his attributes. But looking at it you don't have a sg on the roster next year. For a guy like this who will probably need some playing time throughout his career to hit his caps I think this is the perfect spot to work him in. I would say work on ath, pe, de, bh the most this season and you'll still see improvement in his low post and speed that way. Then next year hopefully you have a guy around 50 ath, 75 sp, 60 pe, 65 bh, that's not bad for a sophomore sg especially since he'll still have some ability to score near the basket with that lp. Then you can start working on his passing and such and move him to pg when there's more room there.

I would support ditching low post.  It's going to improve too slowly to help much before senior year even if you pump minutes into it... at the cost of the other attributes you want the player to develop.

I would have him backing up at SG. Get him some minutes there and hope he develops pretty quick.

Just my opinion

44 WE is enough to nearly max with the right playing time. I think zeroing the rebounding is reasonable, but personally I would not sacrifice his LP. I'd get him at least 15 MPG off the bench this year (you can change it for big games / NT). Start him next season if possible, if not give him heavy bench minutes. He should be 50 or so WE by the time he's a junior and full time starter. If he starts as a soph I am pretty sure he'll max out. If he doesn't start til junior year, I bet he is in the ballpark but comes up a bit short.

Focusing on conditioning now would be doubly beneficial.  ATH/SPD will make him better, and the quicker his STA gets up the more minutes he can play (and the more he can improve). I also would focus on PER, that's the attribute that could take him from good player to superstar.

2 ideas

1.  Redshirt him and play a lot of slow down with 9 guys.  Can certainly be done and it would make Paul very good by his Jr and Sr year.

2.  Start him as a freshman.  He will grow quicker this way and his stamina is low enough that he is not going to steal a ton of minutes from the better current players.  You could play your best line-up in big games and in the post season.  Plus it would allow you to create match-ups with a would be starter against other teams' bench players.
