Best Perimeter Scoring Option? Topic

Which of the following skillsets is the best recruiting target for a low/mid D1 team running a triangle and zone and wanting to lean fairly heavily on this guy on offense (maybe high teens low 20s distro as my best perimeter scoring option):

Player A: ATH 80 / SPD 70 / REB 30 / DEF 85 / LP 65 / PER 90 / BH 60 / P 45
Player B: ATH 70 / SPD 80 / REB 50 / DEF 55 / LP 60 / PER 95 / BH 60 / P 80
Player C: ATH 40 / SPD 90 / REB 15 / DEF 60 / LP 25 / PER 95 / BH 90 / P 90

Assume these are peak ratings (i.e. assume away Work Ethic, upside, etc: if all of these guys had these ratings who would you plug into the role I stated above).

I am waffling but have a general inclination of who I want to prioritize.  I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts though.

Player B

I'd say C is the best solely perimeter guy but B may be the best scorer. Depends what you're looking for.

mikvitu,

I don't care so much about how he gets his points but just how to weigh the ATH/LP advantages of B vs. the SPD/BH advantage of C for someone who will largely play SG.  I personally think it's really close between B and C and that their offensive advantages are worth forgoing Player A's defense.

Player C has the superior work ethic (47 to 30) and I'm thinking that might carry the day since those peak ratings for Player B carry a bit more risk of not quite materializing.

No pro at this but i agree that b and c are the top 2 guys and close to each for that matter.
When i think PER scoring i think.. PER->BH->ATH->SPD->LP
I could be totally off base with these figures but i have an excel file that i setup that rates the players with a formula that i made up and here's my grades for PER scoring:

C - 80.4
B - 79.75
A - 78.05

I would say SPD is more important for perimeter scoring than ball handling and athleticism.

I signed Player B, if anyone is interested.  He is Brandon Fontana.  I realize I've taken a pretty significant risk at a lot of growth given his low-ish work ethic but as I'm working with a total rebuild I'm going to get him 25 mins a night from the get-go to try to pump it up.  He is Low/High in Speed and High/High in Athleticism, Rebounding, and Low Post.  I think he'll be a pretty great wing scorer by mid-junior year.  If he takes a redshirt it's gravy.

I'm hoping Players A and/or C go JUCO and I can snag one or both next year so I won't be revealing their identities :)

As a side note, I always love signing guys who need to develop in both ATH and SPD because you can load up on conditioning in practice and get two for one.  Much better than needing to put 20 mins in both conditioning and perimeter when a guy needs to improve speed and shooting, for example.  Same goes for bigs who are highs in BLK and DEF.

Yeah, but speed and ath tend to grow slower the lp and per.   It's not unusual to see 15+ points of growth in LP or PER in one season.   In many cases it can grow 25+.   Speed and Ath tend to be more in the 8-12 range for an upper limit.   You can get more but the circumstances need to be ideal.
