Have DII Standards fallen this far? Topic

I'll hide the name to protect the innocent, but I just saw a coach with one DIII season (5-22 317 RPI) that moved up to DII their second year.  I've been away a while, so I just wanted to see if this is something ticket worthy, or if this is the par for the course these days.  (FYI- this is the only season on their username in any world before the promotion)

Yeah, the standards for D2 are essentially "coach one season in D3"

Speaking as one of those guys who left D3 after one crappy year it's not that big of a deal. I learned a ton my first year about the game, and sometimes rather than go through a rebuild that has already started poorly its better to just move. And I realized there was no way I could compete in D3. You have to get more out of terrible players and there's a lot of veteran coaches who can do that better than me. Also you get no real info about number of human teams and what your location means to recruiting so it's for the better that they don't pigeon hole inexperienced players for having a bad first year when they no very little about the game.

I pretty well despise D3...if I was forced to play more than one season there to move up, it might have been/be a deal breaker for me.

I feel like it's entirely illogical to "despise" D3 and have a long-term D2 team...  D2 and D3 are virtually the same game, just with slightly different standards...

D2 recruiting places a higher emphasis on scouting, as far as I can tell. I can see how that would make it more attractive (and make D3 frustrating)

Call me illogical then as I have a bunch of D2 teams and despise D3.

they are decently different... don't quite agree with you here. i frankly cant stand either though so my opinion is basically useless...

I was pretty surprised that i was regarded as qualified for pretty much any D2 job after a losing year in D3.

Didn't feel right to move up considering that.

D3 can be frustrating (in my opinion) just because you're guaranteed to have a few crappy players on your team, but if you can't make the most out of them then you're going to be way behind other coaches who can. In D2 I feel like there's a little more leeway and you're able to find more different role players, which for me makes the game easier.

I just joined my second world and will be coaching a D3 team in about a week, but I'm really excited for this team, they had a user coach a couple of seasons ago who was a pretty good recruiter, but even in this world I'm setting my sights more on moving to D1, if I can.

The D2 standards are weird. A couple of seasons ago, I was not eligible for any D2 job even though I was coming off of a D3 Sweet Sixteen. It was all because I switched schools three seasons ago. My resume at the time was this:

Mississippi College: 29-3, RPI 6, Sweet 16
Old Westbury: 8-19, RPI 220
Old Westbury: 23-10, RPI 53, PIT Runner-Up
Old Westbury: 25-6, RPI 13, Sweet 16

The engine viewed that resume as worse than someone who coached one season and went 5-22.

The player quality at D3 is underwhelming...I get that everyone's in the same boat, but it kind of feels like a race to have the least shittiest roster.
