I put 2200$ in this guy sortof local, had no preferences of location, he signed with a school from cali, with a lesser prestige....seems fair

Was the recruit in the same division as your team? Or, were you trying to recruit from a higher division?

I'm guessing the kid was *tight* with the sim team to start.  Even with A+ prestige, it can take over $3K to wrestle a kid away from simmy when they're a high priority for them.  Checking the word on the street is always a good idea when trying to take a kid away from a sim-helps you gauge roughly how much effort/money you'll need to spend.

darnac has a good point.  Was the school a Sim? or human coached.

Prestige rating means very little at D3 though (or D2 for that matter, I would argue)...C- vs. A+ is still largely a question of who gets the most recruiting effort in, the prestige difference is basically negligible in a head-to-head battle at that division. At D3, the biggest value to having a higher team prestige lies in the expanded vision you have for recruits who start on your D3 list compared to a lower prestige who sees those recruits as D2's that need pulled down.

Sim teams' effort is registered as if the team is about 200 miles away from any recruit, regardless of actual location.  Furthermore, each sim team "chooses" one recruit to pour a relatively large amount of effort into.

Given the flat prestige curve in D3, it is moderately hard to beat a sim team for its primary recruit in D3 unless you are very geographically close to the player.

$2,200 worth of recruiting effort isn't very much even at DIII. The amount of money matters a lot less than the amount of effort you put into the guy. How much of this was scouting trips as opposed to home visits.

With my DIII team I recent took a "very tight" player from a DII sim. It took 15 SVs to pull him down then 17 (maybe a couple more) home visits plus a promise to get him. It totaled $7,755. It varies from player to player, but I don't think $2200 (even if it's all home visits) is even close enough to warrant a lock to get the guy. You can get the guy for that, but definitely be prepared to spend much more than that

I was less than 300 miles from the player, the other school was 2500 miles away.

ok that makes sense then with the school and player distance really not being a factor. I thought I'd get the guy easy off the sim....

I think 200 miles away is a big breaking point. There is a good side of 200 and a bad side of 200 miles. If the guy was over 200 but less than 300 miles that is still a pretty substantial difference, especially at DIII. did you try to get the guy right away or did you wait more than 24 hours. After the first full day of recruiting considering credit starts kicking in and can make it more difficult to wrestle the player away

I had him on the watch list and at the first possible recruiting cycle he was already considering the cali school....so I guess I never had a chance he even ran my offense and defense
