Does spd matter for a C Topic

Is a Center has a 10 or less speed does it matter? I know I wouldn't want my pf to be that slow, but I've seen peoe post before that speed doesn't matter for a Center

I wouldn't worry about a sub 10 speed center.

DIII not nearly as much as at the DII, DI level. Not as much if playing zone compared to M2M or press.JMO

What is fast for a center? I had a guy with 36 I think (he graduated), which was around the highest I usually see for incoming D2 recruits. I'm switching to the fast break so I brought in a guy who may end up with around 40-45 which I figure is significantly more that 36 at the center position. It should be interesting to see how they compare at the end of this guys career, he will be around 10 lower in ath and probably 15 lower in lp, but with the speed advantage in the fastbreak it may make a difference. It will be nice to find out at least.

Mikvitu, I've had DIII centers with speeds ranging from 40 to just over 60 and I don't even run a fast break. My current team has two centers with 40+ speed and two under 20 speed (one under 10 speed). I have a PF with 60+ speed who hasn't maxed out yet in speed.

I like faster players in general, especially for running the press. But it really depends.

Whitey, I'd say it depends what O/D you run and what kind of offense you like to run too. I like to go uptempo and my team averages between 85-100 points per game almost every season, so I like fast scorers on my teams (SF David Crampton 40 ATH/67 SPD/64 LP/90 PER/60 BH and C Christopher MacMahan 51 ATH/42 SPD/84 LP and PF Paul Griffin 48 ATH/63 SPD/49 LP/33 BH). I also like to disrupt my opponent with my press, so I like having athletic/fast defenders, even among my big men (like Jerry Johnson on my DePauw team with 62 ATH/43 SPD/60 DEF at center).

the number one rebounder of all time on my d2 charleston squad had a 1 spd (actually went down to 0 during the offseason, but bounced back up after first 'practice'). i also prefer centers with spd (i prefer all players to have high of all ratings if possible - why not?), but i think a team that is not running FB or FCP will survive without fast centers. ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, i have played against teams like sol described (e.g., faster centers) and they did pose problems for my m2m def.

I have been working really hard to comprehend what 0 speed looks like.

I've settled on this.

I'd say that speed for a C is more important in Zone than m2m. In zone, I've seen faster Cs get more blocks and rebounds. On offense, you'd want more speed for a C in FB and triangle if you want them to be a top scoring threat.
