Just took over an 0-27 SHSU team. Just ticked down to D-, so I was curious what it might take to get it to tick back up.

I was D+ after going 1-26.  The next season, I was 14-14 and improved to C-

Looks like two season around 500 will get you to D+

It also depends on how bad the previous 4 were.   I think 60 wins over 5 season is in the D+/C- range.

Your most recent season counts for 50% of your prestige.   The other 50% is your current prestige rating.  

So, if your current season plays out at a B- level, you should be a C- for next season.  However, I don't know what a B- season looks like.

I took over a D- team that won three games total in the four seasons prior to my arrival, which is about as bad a starting point as you can have. It didn't take much to inch upwards:
Year 1 - 6-21 - prestige to D
Year 2 - 8-19 - prestige to D+
Year 3 - 14-17, PI quarterfinals - prestige to C

Sim: 4-23 d+
Sim: 3-24 d
Sim: 9-18 d+
Me: 1-26 d
Me: 10-18 d+
Me: 18-13 c PI 2
Me: 20-9 b- NT 1
Last 8 seasons at my current school. I'm assuming when the Sim had the school it was a really high d and low d+ and that's what made it bounce around so much. That would probably make my d higher than coming off a d- I assume, but this may give a good reference.

My goal for this season is to win 5 or so games. Next season, we should be at least competitive--maybe .500 or a little better. After that, I was hoping to be in more of the D+/C- range which, given what was mentioned above, sounds like a reasonable hope.

I wonder, I took over UAB in Phelan because it had never had a human coach or any post season play in 67 seasons.

season 66 sim 7-10  D-
season 67 sim 7-21  D-
season 68 me  8-20  D-
season 69 me 16-11 D-

starting recruiting for season 70, still a D-.  Team hasn't been above a D+ since season 5.  Makes me wonder (and I made a post about) if there is a lower limit to how low a D- goes in D1, I'm starting to think it can go pretty low.  I had expected after 16 wins to get a bump at least to a D.  Granted, still no postseason play which is a huge part, but wins isn't moving it much

Took over D- Louisiana-Lafayette in Phelan.  Went 24-6 with a 1st round PIT exit in season one and moved to a D+ prestige.  Went 18-10 with no postseason in season two and stayed at a D+ prestige.  Just getting ready to begin season three.

Yes, but you started at a C prestige, so that 1-26 season moved you down to a D+, not up as some people might insinuate from your post.

Interesting discrepancy between guyo26/dcy0827's observations and my own. Perhaps division, RPI or the conference's overall prestige plays into how quickly a school's prestige can increase. In my case, the team I took over was in D2 Cal. CAA in Tark and was so bad in part because they were the only sim team in a very competitive conference for many seasons. It might be that you don't need as many wins to bump up your prestige if you are in a tough conference (even if the wins you do get those first couple of seasons are against non-conf cupcakes). The tough conference helped my RPI as well, which might have driven the prestige increases I saw ... mine was 167 during the 6-21 season in which I moved to D, and 139 in the 8-19 season that moved it to D+.

I don't think it matters where he started.  Prestige is 50% current season and 50% your current prestige rating. 

He started at a C and dropped to a D+, a drop of 2 slots.   So we can assume a 1-26 season is the equivalent of an D-, giving him an average of D+.

The next season, he was 14-14, which must be at the C level.   That 'C', averaged with his existing D+, gives him a C-

al, i think they changed this for d1 a while back. its still true in d2/d3 though... unless im confusing jobs and prestige? i thought it was both?
