Losing arbitration years Topic

If I have a player with a relatively high OVR (should bring compensation), but only a decent player, it's obviously possible to sign him to a 'long-term' deal instead of going into arbitration.  If I make the 'long term' deal only one year will that reduce my arb years, so he'll go FA and get me the comp pick earlier?

Figured that might be the case, but was hoping for a way to speed up Free Agency and couldn't find any discussion of this possibility anywhere.
