I know in Football players wont drop form D2 to D3 does it hold true that they wont drop down?

Some will drop down.  The way I know to check is to give the coach a call- then he'll either tell you something like "He won't be wearing your colors"/"I think he can play at a higher level" which means he won't drop, or "If he doesn't get the attention he wants"/"You're a backup" then he *may* drop down (if no higher level teams try for him) and can be pulled down.

MY team is terrible so that may be a tall feat to try

Pulling players down is a much better strategy IMO, but at D3, I'm not sure how feasible it is.

If you get a positive response to a phone call, they will eventually drop. But they drop to the A+ prestige teams, first, than A, etc.

Pulling down players is extremely costly in D3 considering the budget per open scholly. I wouldn't recommend doing this early in recruiting if you are D3. Just asking for money to be flushed down the drain by a D2 human coach coming in on the same cycle trying to get a "cheap get" -- sometimes you just have to take that risk, but waiting for them to drop down is a much safer strategy, but obviously you run a risk no matter when you go in on someone. 

Bad luck/bad mistakes in recruiting are compounded in D3

maybe I have played too many of my DIII seasons in stacked conferences with phat wallets, but I've never really had a problem pulling down players from D 2 to D 3. Have to pick the right players...under 200 miles its really not that expensive (I guess unless someone else is pulling too - I recommend waiting past the first couple cycles to see if there is tons of other obvious interest in your guy before spending...)

This I agree with, since the budgets are smaller but the costs the same there is a smaller margin for error (in general) - of course the flip side holds true for some things - a signifcant error in a coach's estimation of recruiting values applied over a large scale effort with big time D1 dollars is also magnified significantly...

Problem w/ D3 pulldowns is so many of the guys worth spending to pull down are backup plans for good D2 coaches. You'll pull the kid down and then a D2 coach will knock you off halfway thru recruiting. They're not that expensive as one-offs, but building your strategy around pull downs is just reckless imo. 

concur that I would not try to recruit only pulldowns. WIth those kids that you've pulled down who then wind up on a D2 list and look like backup options, dont give up just yet. Save an open slot and leave your offer on the table. If the D2 guy gets all his primaries that kid of yours will fall right back again. (you prob know that - this is on the gen advice idea)

Yeah, for sure.. not many better feelings in this game than seeing a target you thought was gone have the school they were considering drop off :)

I know a big part of this is the budgets, but it's not nearly as bad in D1 >> D2 because there simply aren't that many human coaches in D1 that are going for D1/D2 borderline recruits like there is in D2.
