How is the "top recruiting classes" scored?  I see the points but how are they done?

I don't know exactly, but at D2 and D3 all they did was confuse me.  When I first started I would look at the top recruiting classes and try to figure out what was so good about them, and try to model my classes after them the first couple of seasons.  At the D2 and D3 levels they are completely worthless, probably not even worth the time to open the email.

It's my understanding that the rating system is a remnant from when potentials didn't exist, so only the players current ratings are taken into account.  That should tell you all you need to know about the efficacy of the rankings right there.

They dont mean anything.  I think the point are based on overall ratings, for sure doesnt take potential into account.  So the people with the highest rated classes either had the most open scholarships or the most juco's.

True, dan.  And, if you have a walk-on, he's counted as a true freshman.  Before potential was introduced, they had some merit. Not so now

Except that that is how it is done in RL too. We THINK we know what a player's potential is, and sometimes they live up to it and sometimes they don't. A lot of the higher ranked players in RL go off of what their "ratings" for their ranking. So, they both seem the same to me.
