Taking Walk-Ons Out of Team Rating Calculation Topic

I know it's just more window dressing, but with the Player Roles feature becoming more practical, the next step should be taking walk-ons out of the average rating calculation on the team page. It seems like it would be a very simple fix and would make looking at team ratings more worth while.

I disagree. a team's overall rating should include all players on the team. It is what it is and should include walkons.

Sorry, I agree with trail. It's a pain in the *** to subtract and add then divide to find the teams true overall rating, not to even think for each atribute.  If you're gameplanning and opponent runs FCP and you look a stamina, ath, def and see overall rating for that individual rating you'll be mislead.

Yeah, I would like to see what trail is proposing as well.     I would also like to see Red Shirted guys removed as well.

I agree with both Trails and Coachvegas to an extent. (think Hughes suggested the same thing Trails just did in a thread not too long ago?) - I think they should just add the *Compare Tool* to your team and to your next opponent, like they have during recruting where you compare recruits .... has all the functions needed to take care of the proposed issue.

Agree 100% with this. The overall rating should represent your whole squad. Besides, taking a deeper look at your opponent's squad in gameplanning is one of the things that separates good coaches from... less good coaches. Why spoon-feed that info to everybody?

overall rating should include everyone. but there should be some setting that allows you to see somebody's roster with walk-ons excepted without having to do it all by hand, possibly like what hogstench is suggesting. Building it off the compare tool does allow for interesting possibilities--if you can choose which guys get excepted, you might be able to pull up a view of just the other team's starters, or just their players who get more than 10 MPG, or something like that. This doesn't really change gameplay in any way, but it's a very nice (possibly aesthetic, but nice regardless) gameplanning tool.

i agree with trail and joe  (and not just cause their my socal conf mates!)

as for bh point about spoonfeeding... i can understand that perspective, but not neecassily agree with it in this case ...

reminds me of a big argument in the very very early days.   there was no search tool for recruiting.  i think you had to open each player individually?  heck i dont remember exactly,  but one of theo arguments against updating the recruiting menus and preocess was that the info would be spoonfed to coaches and then the lazy ones would have all the info that was hitherto only available to the diligent coaches who took the time to sift through all the data.

others may disagree, but i think the more information that is out there,  and the more readily available it is.... the better.   the coaches who want to dig and find those deeper layers and small advantages will find them... i promise you.

Overall rating is such a trivial and useless stat that I don't even look at it whether they have walk ons or not. Dev's time would be better served running out and getting some energy drinks or something before a night of coding than making this change.

Good point Joe.

We could reword the proposal as: If a player doesn't get any minutes, they should be excluded from the calculation. Any easy way to program this as HD currently exists would be to exclude from the calculation players who still qualify to be redshirted (after the first game obviously).

There could be a simple on/off setting for this as there is with Overall Rating vs. Player Role Rating.

I don't know about you, but I look at average rating for each category when gameplanning during the season. Overall rating may not be useful but individual categorical averages certainly are.

I agree with taco!

I think trail is on the right path...

I'm lost on the argument against this. Spoon-feeding? Are you kidding? Being able to see an opposing team's player ratings is spoon-feeding. Let's get rid of that. Let's get rid of the ability to see another team's statistics for the season as well. It's just spoon-feeding us by calculating it out in an easy to see page.

The easy way to handle this to everyone's liking is to make it an option on the user settings page ... people who want to see walkons and redshirts can keep the default settings and people who don't can pick that too.

It would be just like the overall team score.  I think overall points is a waste of space, but the average score option along with player roles make overall score actually meaningful now.  It can be MUCH more meaningful if we can exclude guys who do not play (walkons and redshirts).

I already have a spreadsheet that I which compares the teams and I use that to game plan, so I don't particularly need this option as I can already look at teams that way, but it would still like an easier way to do it via normal gameplay.
