Does playing a fatigued player hurt development? Topic

Would playing a prospect down into the 80s in his percentage hurt development? I have a STUD prospect who is young and his durability isnt there yet. I was wondering if playing him below 100% would hurt development. Would it be better for him to have less ABs, or more ABs but at a lower %?  I know injury risk is there, I am strictly wondering about development. Is there a sure answer to this?

The heightened risk of injury is more than enough reason to not play a prospect down to fatigue in the 80's.

If you subscribe to the theory that more PA is better(I do), you have to factor that against injury risk.   I'm more likely to play a fatigued prospect early in the season, where I can get injury recovery cycles, than late.    So, for the most part, nobody gets into the 80s.

+1.  I also now let prospects play down to the low 90s as my way of balancing that risk and benefit.

Take a look at this guy and let me know what you think... he started off with really low dur, and in S27 he was left in rookie for a 2nd year and as a result, played in a small number of games and finished the year at or right near 100% and got a +8 dur in the offseason... in S28 he played in wayyyy too many games (all 144, in fact) and finished the season at something like 60-65%, and only got +4 dur despite no change in training budgets.  I suspect that playing guys down that far negatively affects offseason Dur development, does anyone else notice that effect?  I try to look for other players with similar patterns but I rarely come across any guys in the minors who are down near 60%...

it would seem intuitive that you would want to use your minors as a way to "stretch guys out", by giving them the appropriate playing time (not too little and not too much). I would speculate that this could also affect pitchers and their offseason stam development but I'm not sure... I just don't think it's simply a matter of training budget + player's "true potential", I have no choice but to wonder if mis-management cost Escobar some valuable dur points

www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx this player is my only comparable example from my own team, in S27 I overused him and he finished around 85% and got +8, in S28 I did a much better job and kept him near 95-100 and he got a +7 but I did have an increase in training budget, S29 I've kept him at 98-100 so I'm hoping he still has some valuable dur development left, but I do wonder how much I damaged him in S27
