So as to not clutter the draft thread, I'll explain my thinking on my trade here:

It's true that I will wait an awfully long time to make my first pick. I'm a little nervous about it. But when I finally pick, I get four picks in a 14-pick span, two sets of which are nearly back-to-back. And all those picks are in the top 55 picks. I like my chances to get 4 pretty good players, and I'll be able to build the core of my team without many intervening picks to screw me up.

Then you add in that I get another set of almost back-to-backs in the 4th, and I have six guys before some even have four. I get to make my 7th pick before most people have five. So hopefully, I'll get my pick of good backups.

Bottom line, I like stockpiling a lot of picks before the middle of the 3rd round. It should be fun.

in other words, you're going with a double order of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravy and carrot cake while passing on the T-bone and baked potato

Oh, I'm confident you'll build a strong team.  I'm just not ready to hand you the title like Sly said!

You saw what I did last season... and it almost worked out perfectly (should have, actually - postage plain outcoached me in the finals as I overreacted too hard before the series even started and defended him wrong; meanwhile he didn't panic and just owned my ***).  I basically had Shaq & a bunch of people taken before they usually go (mid/late round picks).

I normally value the 2nd round much lower than most and really like rounds 3 & 4... so if I can get more picks there at the expense of a 2, I'll do it.  I like my 1 too much to give it up, but stockpiling mid-round picks IS an effective strategy.  Good luck.

I can't believe that Beijing doesn't have a Denny's
6/23/2014 9:59 PM
don't get to beijing too often... live on the other side of the country (thank god)... however, never seen a denny's in china before... they've got all the fast food joints imaginable, but no "short-order-fast-food" family restaurants

In the Texas is becoming a shithole dept:

Thunderstorm came through last Tuesday and knocked out power in parts of town, and I lost Internet service. Thursday I still didnt have internet service, even though I could ping my router the whole time. So I called Suddenlink to complain, their story being that power was down between my router and their core..... seriously.
So "You do know the internet was designed to survive thermonuclear war right? Oh, and it is called a router for a reason."

:Duh...."

"Ok, let me make it simple. Do you not have OSPF configured on that router's interfaces with adjacencies to other routers on the network and hello and dead timers and LSA advertisements?" etc.

"er....."

"let me guess. It is a stub router with NAT\PAT and you lost power to the device the PAT was configured on. Ok, send a tech out with a serial cable and a DB-60 connecter and connect that router up to an unaffected router"

"huh..."

Which must have been what they did eventually because my Gateway had been a 192.168.0.0 address (private, needs NAT\PAT), and now it is a 50.0.0.0 range address. Which kinda freaked me at 1st since almost all ip's in the 50's are assigned to US/British government. Apparently, that address block used to be joint technical command's, but they gave it back to IANA.

It gets worse. Monday I was supposed to take my networking certification exam from Cisco, via Pearson Vue's testing service, AND THEIR SERVER WAS DOWN. Seriously. So now I am getting a three ring circle jerk from Cisco and Pearson Vue. I had to call up Cisco and generate a case report so they would know I didn't just blow off showing up, Pearson Vue wont reassign me (btw, these exams, they aint free) a new exam time until they get an incident report from the local test center, so I am in limbo.

It gets worse. Cant get in to see my Urologist (and trust me I need to) until Thursday, because oil boom town is impossible to get anything done in, and going to a walk in clinic right now would make you a suicide commando. Because sitting next to people with scarlet fever, tuberculosis, and Dengue is not recommended.

So tired of this place. So near all my Certifications and moving.

6/24/2014 12:39 PM
Hey sly, want to trade your Chris Paul and second round pick for my Charles Barkely and second round pick?
6/24/2014 12:40 PM
No, thanks though!  I am really looking forward to building a team around Paul.  I've built more than one around Barkley between the ODL & DH52.
