1969 Rookie League database for OOTP Baseball ! Topic

I will bump this once in case any OOTP players here missed seeing it.

I have two leagues running using this database - in one I drafted carefully for each team - made sure each team had one strong power hitter, at least one ace, and a plausible bench and four starters. I kept the same team names and run the Yankees whose best players are Yaz and McCovey, and my staff is led by Koosman and Fritz Peterson.

I did not expect much for a few seasons but we won the pennant in season 1, lost the Series to the Padres. We came in a distant third in season 2 however way behind the Tigers who lost to California who beat the Padres.

In the other league I changed all the names of cities and teams - the Hudson Valley Ironmen is my team, and others include Oklahoma, Nashville, Denver, Vermont Toledo etc.

I let the computer random draft for all the teams including mine. So my roster would be a surprise. It is an uphill fight - I did get Mike Cuellar and Claude Osteen but neither is of any use in their real life rookie seasons, and not for 2 or 3 after that. So Tom Murphy, Gene Brabender and Woody Fryman are my mainstays in the rotation for now - not bad but not earth-shaking. In a few years it ought to be good though (remember all the players are in their real life first seasons, so they are not all in 1969 and some take a while to develop). The bullpen, with Bob Lee and Wayne Granger, is not bad.

Strangely, I got random-assigned Yaz here too, along with Sal Bando and Larry Hisle and I traded a relief pitcher and a backup catcher and bench first basemen for Paul Blair who was a 6th outfielder - I had bits and pieces to put together an OF with, but now like the team.

Unlike the team above that I drafted, where I let a week or month at a time sim through and then adjust things and look over stats and reports, so far I am playing one game at a time watching this team play, and having fun with it. With Phil Linz and Ike Brown, Darrell Chaney and John Roseboro, and Sandy Valdespino on the bench it is a scrappy team, but somehow watching Linz lead off and Paul Blair bat second in front of Yaz is enjoyable. So I am playing one game at a time for now and will have fun watching this season unfold.

We have played four games, are 2-1 on the season so far and split two games against the Nashville Yachtsmen, a powerful lineup of Rod Carew, Reggie Jackson and Roy White but we beat Andy Messersmith on opening day. We won yesterday against the Brooklyn Bruisers, (Eddie Mathews, Bill Mazeroski, and Tommy John) but play again today with Dave Leonhard on the mound starting for us against Rudy May for Brooklyn.

Anyway, the database is there for you all to use. I will put others together and post them as well in the future as I think up leagues or join WIS leagues and reproduce them as OOTP leagues.
