I am looking at the draft class and its not real great right now.  I have the 7th pick and there a really good projected IFA out there.  Scouting on both is 16.  To get the IFA I will have to spend all of my prospect budget, I dont like the idea of punting the draft and not signing anyone or getting a type D for it next season.  Is there a thread on the probability of signing.  Obviously if I get "Looking to sign. Will sign for slot money." he will sign.  As in is : "Looking to be drafted in the first round. If not, he'll probably accept a scholarship to play DI college baseball." is that basically 50/50. Would it be better to load up on "Undecided. He is also being scouted to play pro hockey." type guys.or "May sign if the deal is right. Has been offered several scholarships to play college baseball at a DI school." a better shot at not signing.

Just weighing at my options for what to do.

who is to say you'll actually get that IFA? do you have the highest prospect budget in the league

I would be able to get him, with the available budget

You have to have the available prospect budget to at least offer the picks their demands if you want type D comp.  If your draft is still a few days away the IFA will likely be gone by then it seems, especially since some of the guys you draft will take a week to decide whether to sign or not.

At any rate, there's always a risk they will sign.  The guys who say they're unlikely to sign rarely do, the guys who are weighing other sports sometimes do, the guys wanting to be taken high usually do, and the guys who say they will sign always sign.  For the guys in the two middle groups, most times they reject the initial offer and then request more money which means, once they reject you can get Type D comp, but their reply can take up to a week--probably too long for you to still get the IFA you want as mentioned above.  From my limited experience anyway.

That's what I was wondering, what the odds were of signing. The IFA offer would make it so I can't offer the prospect no matter what. So I'm trying to rank and predict who I might draft vs whether or not they might sign. Right now I'm going to risk the type D and hope there's a good draft class next year

If you use all your prospect money on the IFA there's no way to get type D comp.

Yeah, well the guy went for 31mil. So hopefully there's another good IFA for around 20
