I believe I read somewhere on here that speed at the Center position is for the most part meaningless, is this true and more importantly is it true in the FCP?

i've been one of the major proponents for being able to build quality bigs out of just ath, def, reb, and sb, even with 1s in spd, per, bh, and pass. i still think thats true, but i think for offensive bigs, speed is helpful in terms of getting to the line. i don't think it has a substantial impact on fg%. the press has changed a lot and im not really sure if you can still ignore it at center. it used to be true, but i am not as sure these days, it might be marginally helpful.

What about for fastbreak?

I actually like speed at the center position more than most coaches. I think it could work well if you have a center that has decent ballhandling skills, on a fast break or possibly against a man to man. However, speed in centers is far from the first thing I would look for when recruiting, but it's always a nice added bonus.

still doesn't affect fg%, at least not enough for me to pick up on it (and i did look). it does affect how much the player gets to the line, just like in any other offense. the way i approach speed is that i completely ignore it in def/reb type bigs (which are all you need for at least 50% of your bigs), and value it as a low priority stat in offensive bigs. thing is, its so ridiculously hard to get a high scoring big to be as efficient as a guard (if not impossible), that i just don't value offense in bigs that much. so from an overall team planning perspective, speed in bigs is very low on my list. i would continue to recommend newer coaches ignore it as a means of simplification and to increase focus on the cores. but more advanced coaches should probably pay some attention in their scoring type bigs.
