Predicting this pitcher Topic

I'm curious to hear anybodys experience with a pitcher like this:

David Nunez

Projects to have great L/R splits...decent pitches...but such a low control and velocity number. Any success stories with a guy like this? I can't imagine him being any more than a back end starter with all those free passes.

Can't see his projections, nor does he have enough development to predict where he'll end up with his ratings.

You can get away with mediocre control (50-60) if you have great splits and great pitches.  I'm guessing that his splits project out to maybe high 70's, and his pitches will probably be solid (except for the P5).

I wouldn't worry about velocity.  It's just a secondary rating.

His control is projected at 42: L/R splits projected at 73 and 83 respectively.

His 1st pitch: 76
2nd pitch: 92
3rd and 4th pitch: 60's

Jiminez has solid stats and his pitches arent as good as Nunez.

Kind of my point.

I hope you don't mind I ask a similar question on this thread. What if the only low stat was only in FB/GB ratio. Another words if all other stats are high would it be better to have a pitcher with the low stat (say 40 to 50) in control or FB/GB?

If there were 2 Ps who had all identical ratings except one had 45 Control and 85 FB/GB and the other had those rating reversed, I'd take the one with 85 Control.

GB/FB is a secondary rating.   The only really horrible ones I've ran across are the single digit guys.

I've got a guy with GB/FB of 83 who's led the team in HRs given up (per inning) three seasons in a row.

wow, I never knew that. I was told before I started my first ever league that it was "the all important gb/fb" ratio.

People have specific beliefs that they pass off as gospel.    GB/FB is more important in a HR park but I wouldn't pass on an A+ pitcher because he had a 21 GB/FB rating.

The one I like is "I won't use a pitcher with sub 70 control."   I say "Good because you're leaving a lot of guys out there for me.  Thanks!"

I haven't seen much of a correlation between GB/FB and HR totals either.
