Guys, I had a 14-14 season in DIII. 1st season

I moved up to DII, lost the conference tournament final, went to PI third round 2nd season

I won the conference, the conference tournament, NT Sweet Sixteen. 3rd season

Do you think I am getting a DI offer tomorrow?

If so where do I go? I won't wait. If I get any offers, I am moving up. My plan from the get go was to have a DIII team, a DII team and a DI team.

Maybe.....I think that is enough but you might need one more season......you aren't going to get anything above a D- job but I think you will qualify

I don't think that is enough but it's been awhile since I went through the D2 --> D1 process.

No, but I've seen a guy with 35 NT appearances squelched from D1, so I can't say I know how the **** works lol.

I think you'll need at least 4-5 seasons total to get to D1. Takes a little time to get the loyalty back to A+.
12/6/2014 1:46 PM
So you are saying i need a+ Rep absolutly?
12/6/2014 3:14 PM
Rep is part of it, but you probably need more NT appearances and wins as well.

I'd say you need at least an A loyalty and probably back-to-back NTs. I'd say you need 2 more seasons of making the NT to land a low-level D1 job.

Three total seasons to move from D3 to D1? That would have to be some kind of record, wouldn't it? Especially with only one of those three seasons having any kind of NT appearance.

Yeah, I never knew how long it took. But I need more loyalty. I think if I had A loyalty, which is impossible when you move up, i'd have DI offers. I did not get any. I think I need two more seasons to get to A loyalty.

Maybe I will see more than D- DI teams when I get there! Anyways, thanks guys. It's tough going to D1.

Even with an A++++++++++ reputation and loyalty, a three season resume of 14-14 (w/ no postseason at all), 23-9 (3rd Rd PIT), and 23-9 (S16) is nowhere even remotely near being qualified for a D1 job. It "might" be in the same galaxy as a D1 job, but it ain't in the same solar system.

D1 jobs will be there, there are plenty of them and there always will be. Take your time, learn the game a bit first, that way you don't move up to D1 unprepared and end up getting yourself fired which really DOES make it hard to move back up. Of course, those standards were the ones in effect when I started almost a decade ago and some things have chnaged drastically since then.

And you pretty much need an A+ for both loyalty AND reputation to move up. There are a few (emphasis on few) exceptions to that, but very few.

This is the first season I'm qualified for D-1 jobs (some of the D- prestige openings). I don't have any d-2 experience with this account, but take a look at my Tark resume and see what you might need.

Thanks Jax. I saw what you did. It makes me see the lenght it can take. Emy, I am coming UP! No way, I am remaining at DII. Don't worry about Learning, I am, I am. Why do I want to move up that fast, honestly, it's just that you get happy with your situation.. you build a team, you have a philosophy, and then you start over at D1... I still need to find where I will settle at D1, DII (pretty sure I found it), DIII, still looking around but narrowing it down.

If I get to D1 in Tarkanian, I am going to either Vermont, New Hampshire, Alcorn State or Morgan State. It will all depend on the division and how many owners are in there when I do. Cause one thing I found out, it's fun to be in an active division. It makes all the difference.

zorzil, I couldn't agree more with the other posters. Take your time moving up. It's not that big of a deal to start over at D1 when you're ready. But unless you're vastly smarter than me (which is possible), it took me the better part of a year (a real year, not a game year) to get to a point of reasonable comfort with the game and I still feel like I don't know close to enough. I'm sure others learn much faster but it's a lot to learn and that's just at the D3 level. I can move up right now to a low-level D1 job but I've heard it's very difficult to succeed there if you don't know the game well. I actually prefer D3 to D2. I think it's more fun. If I move up, I'd bypass D2 and go right to D1 but I want to wait until I can qualify for a decent D1 job. I have a program with 9 NT bids and a 10-9 NT record, A+ prestige and A+ loyalty and A+ reputation and even that world only gives me low-level options at D1 after at least 14 seasons. So I think you'll need a lot more than 2 more seasons. It's not just having the seasons, it's having success in those seasons. You need NT bids and you need to win some NT games if you want to move up quickly. Good luck.

Heh, if you want an active conference you better forget about Vermont or New Hampshire. It'll just be me and you my friend. It's just myself and one other coach at American U. (Bigrum--very nice guy) right now and he's trying to make the move to a BCS conference at his first opportunity. That'll leave just me all by my lonesome in the Patriot League.
