I have been playing Gridiron for a while and I'm thinking about joining the basketball side of it as well. Is recruiting set up using yatrz's formulas like it is I Gridiron? For those that don't know what I mean, in recruiting, the drop down menus give you an option of putting the recruits in in order from best to worst regardless of stats. Thanks I advance.

No, you can't rank the recruits in order. Once you've added them to your watch list, you can designate them into priority groups....High,Medium, Low, or Not Set.

You can, however, search for recruits in order.  You have to designate which category you're looking for....best Defense, Shooting, Overall ranking, etc.  The recruits will appear in order from high to low for the category you selected.

You can also set up parameters for each position.   Example:  For a PG,on a 100 pt. scale, you might  value BH 35%, Pass 30%, Speed, 15%, etc.  The recruits will then appear in order based on your parameters.

like you, I started in GD and switched to HD. Yatzr tool was amazing in GD and when I switched to HD the tool hadn't yet been developed. A few seasons later Yatzr rolled it out and it is now completely functional to what the GD tool at that same time (not sure what GD Yatzr is like now, though).

The short of it is that I won't recruit without it anymore. It's fantastic.

I don't know anything about yatzr's tool for HD but being able to set priorities at 4 levels on your recruiting tab is more than enough to effectively recruit with. You don't have nearly as many spots or varying positions to fill in basketball as you do in football so I don't really see the benefit. And as alblack said, there are many effective ways to find recruits using the options whatif gives you in recruiting. The bottom line is, recruiting for basketball is naturally much simpler than recruiting for football and there is no need to get too fancy and trying to outsmart it with exact tools. If they work for you then great, but whatif gives you more than enough on its own.

And this is a great game. Welcome and have fun!

I like this game a lot more than GD. Hope you decide to join! They never make very many changes here, but compared to the releases in the last few years in GD, that may be a good thing.

I played one year in Rupp and did pretty good back in the day. I have to do all this off my phone. So what world would be good to be in and I would like to learn how to recruit before I screw a team up. I like faced paced offenses and a press type team. What is some of the best offenses and defenses to play?

Running fastbreak AND pressing tends to fatigue your team. Most top coaches, but not all, avoid this combination

The most popular defenses are man2man and press, but there's a lot of support for zone as well.

In this game, I think motion, triangle, and flex are equally effective offenses.

It depends how often you want to check, 2x worlds are faster paced and go by quicker allowing you to get a team going but you probably need to check twice a day to gameplan.  If you're looking to join now, Naismith opens Friday and its a 1x day world so games are only played at around 2:45 am est.  the next 2x world is Tark but not until the 12th however that plays 2 games a day usually 2:45 am and 2pm.  I prefer 2x because if you're just starting out its quicker to get to your 2nd/3rd season when your recruits are actually good.

Any offense/defense can be effective as long as you bring in good players.  However to get the best out of each offense some minor differences are needed.  Like Fastbreak/FCP you need your players to have a lot of stamina and the ability to play all 12 players.  Most importantly though is everyone needs Ath and Def at the bare minimum.

Here is a good thread to read:
D2/D3 guide

Personally I am starting to really like the motion offense.  As it doesn't require elite offensive threats.  And anyone with good ath/spd can be a decent scorer.  I've utilized triangle a lot but it is really hard to be elite when you don't have elite offensive talent and can be shut down quickly, but when you do get those star offensive players they are extremely dominant/effcient.

Defensively I like man or press.  I think press can be a little inconsistent when facing good teams as if the other team matches up ath/spd wise you'll get that one game where you commit a lot of fouls.  Man won't take advantage of those weaker teams, but against better competition I believe you get more consistenly good results.

I've played zone a few times and I just don't like it, I think it can be good, if you don't have depth but I think the same exact team running a zone is worse than the same team running man/press.

If you're building the exact same way as man or press then you are doing it wrong! It can be very effective if done correctly.  But, then, I am one of the zone defenders

I run motion/press, flex/press, fastbreak/press. I am a very aggressive retired RL coach who loves Uptempo/Pressure programs. I love the "3".  IN THIS GAME my most consistent combo has been flex/press. HOWEVER, I LOVE FB/Press. There are some games where it just destroys opponents, but is probably the most inconsistent from game to game. I have won the NC with motion/press. I have also been to the NC game with flex/press and FB/press. I do not have any respect for zone. It's just too easy to beat.

You will find that most topics discussed on the forums are way to general. An example is, "You must have good stamina." As a general statement that sounds accurate. In fact you can accomplish what you need thru stamina or depth. If you can build a team that you can play 10 guys that wouldn't hurt you, you can overcome individual stamina. (EX: See my San Fran team.) I run uptempo most of the time. I usually run it with 11 players and 1 redshirt. My 11th player plays minimal minutes. I just rarely have to go deeper than 10 players. Them my friend, are the facts from my experience.

By the way, I use fatigue settings only.

Zone run by SIM AIs and coaches who don't know what they're doing is indeed easy to beat. Zone run by coaches who know how it works and how to gameplan, I would argue, is a different story.

So you're saying winning with zone is more of a challenge than the other sets. Too easy to beat hence more difficult to win with. So playing press is like playing this game on the easy setting?

Take the zone challenge! My team is consistently towards the top of DII in knight on fg% against (when I'm not in the middle of a rebuild) Don't get me wrong it has it's drawbacks but it can be done.

I'd say very few coaches out much effort, into trying to win with zone.
