The College Basketball Invitational, played since 2007, is having trouble attracting teams to it's 16-team event. They want a mix of Power Conference teams and mid-majors but many teams from the Power Conferences turned them down........South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, TCU, Minnesota,Oregon St., California, Florida St., and Northwestern. So,the only 'big' school that's playing this year is Colorado (15-17), who's leading scorer has decided not to play in the tournament. Last year, Oregon State, Penn State, and Texas A&M were in the field.
The CBI has that bizarre 'best of 3' final again.
The CIT, however, filled their field early for their 32-team event. They only accept mid-major schools and those that knew they wouldn't be invited to the NIT, were glad to play. Murray State defeated Yale in last year's championship.
Both tournaments are 'pay to play', and you pay more if you want to host a game.
