Coach, thanks for stopping by. The more I hear about Coe, the more I like. The plans you have for the program sound impressive! Thanks again.

How do I get that message and the guy signs with a different school (of lower prestige) in the same cycle?

That's not a scholarship message - that's a positive response to a home visit.

sure but if he's that excited about me how does he sign with someone else so quickly?

The only messages that give a true indicator of interest in your program are the scholarship messages or what Word on the Street says ***in the cycle it comes out***. Reactions to HV and CV's don't mean a thing.

In this case you appear to have been clearly behind at that stage of things and/or your opponent put an overwhelming amount of effort on the kid in the cycle where he signed.

Yanks, come on man.  You've got nearly 300 seasons worth of experience and you know by now that what Rednu posted above is the only way to get a true indication of where you stand in the battle.  What he says in his response to your HV's or CV's mean nothing.  It is what his response is to your scholarship offer OR what Word on the Street says that determines everything.

Man, you know that Yanks.  And, well, if you didn't then there's a great, and oh so important, piece of information that you learned for the day.

I know what he's saying, but his assumption is wrong.  The last word on the street had us even.  Between then and the time he signed, I gave him one more HV.  My question was regarding the email and was intended to be completely independent of the Word on the street or any other factor.

Well, completely independent of those things, he enjoyed your home visit.  It seems he enjoyed the other coach's effort a fair amount more.

The bottom line is not to lend much weight to those messages.  You would have known from other factors, like the last scholarship message and the order you were listed in the "struggling" WOTS (assuming that's what you saw) that you were already behind, then make an educated guess as to:

1. How much time you have to come back
2. How much more effort the other coach can put in/is willing to put in
3. How much more effort you can afford to put in
