Zone Defense - 2-3/3-2 and defensive positioning Topic

Just wanting some thoughts on when people adjust to a 3-2 zone, vs. just pushing their defensive positioning out to a + range? What are the advantages/disadvantages to using the positioning vs, the 3-2?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

A lot depends on what players you have, specifically the characteristics of your small forward.

For me, it's who does the scoring.....if it's guards the 3-2 is better than 2-3.....if it is post players the opposite....

Yeah like Trentonjoe said. Team that shoots a ton of 3's and has good % go 3-2. If bigs are good and great rebounders go 2-3. If my sf has good reb ratings than I like 2-3, but make sure in 2-3 you have a real good C, reb, blk, ath. That's real important. I also like to switch, 3-2 3 guard types. 2-3 sf has to have good reb and def.

Not much on positioning. I have seen and experienced 3-2 -5 still have an effect on number of 3 point shots taken but get beat up on the boards. It's really beneficial to play both, but you need to recruit for that.

any conversation about the zone should start with this thread and then move forward from there.
