Season 81 Wrap Up Topic

In D3 We have our champion from the USA South, CNU coached by dukenilnil, winning his second title at CNU.  CNU held off a rapid comeback from Cal Tech who down by 6 under two minutes, tied the game at 52-52, but committed the costly foul with just tenths of a second and CNU hit the two free throws to win the title.  Great seasons for both schools, and coaches.

Personally I'm a little disappointed, after getting to the 2nd round and losing to the eventual runner up, I was expecting more out of my great junior, however I think my perimeter shooting(lack of) doomed me.  Next season looks to be good again only losing 2 senoiors.  The freshmen recruits I got developed pretty well.  Redshirted Dennis Griffin and he is still high in bh/pas as well as looking like he will end up low 60's for ath and mid 70's for speed.

Tarleton St., coached by theonlydeal, finished strong what was a stronger season. Considered the best team in DII for most of the season, Tarleton St. ended up playing a surprising Mount Olive #7 finalist. coached by colonels19. The game was not close and some other favorites probably watched still a bit frustrated at the way the NT championship unveiled. Chew's Metropolitain State was one of the team everyone thought had a shot, so were Merrimack, N.W. Nazarene and UNC Pembroke. All an all, the best team won the crown after losing the title game the year before.

Congrats to Theonlydeal on a great season.

Averett had yet another disappointing season among many, flaming out in the round of sixteen.

Fort Valley St - D2, Southern Conf. - This was Year 4 for the 1st and only coach not named SimAI in school history. This was the best team in the school's history with 21 wins and 12 losses. We had a fantastic season that fell just short of the NT when we lost a tough game to Clark Atlanta in the CC final. Our SOS was the difference however, in us qualifying for the PI for only the 3rd time in 81 seasons of play. We made a short run to the PI Final Four before falling to eventual champion, Post. This is a major stepping stone in becoming a legitimate D2 team. I don't know if we are ready to replace departing seniors C Gary Graham and PG Fred Blake but we'd better. Need to get better in general and I can't wait to hit the recruiting trail to keep building the program.

This is two years in a row now that I thought I had a chance in the first round and I end up getting knocked out in the first round by an eventual Final Four team. Oops.
