Just what the heck happened here?

?!

Are you, referring to 77-5? Or the fact that four owners owned all,the teams? I suspect that all 24 teams are actually one owner who is manipulating results to his benefit

LOL.  That league filled up in a hurry.  I wanted to test the high assist concept in a higher cap league and the next thing you know timms43 filled it all up in a day. Because of that I can't say I learned anything, and I'm certainly not gloating at the record ... not in the least.  Ash or any other good owner would have won 77 in this league.  I would have preferred a few more good owners to better test the concept.

I don't know who timms43 is but I assure you he's not me.  My last open league team went 74-8 and last 6 teams won the championship, so please don't accuse me of manipulating.

Haha damn. Nice job then and congrats

Yeah, i was referring to the four owners in one league.  I didn't really think kinoa was manipulating anything, because if he was, I figure he'd done better than 77-5!  Also, since it's not an OL, it wouldn't qualify him for a spot on the record books.  Thus, "what the heck happened here?" was what came to mind!

What was the cap, kinoa?  I didn't bother running the numbers

Thanks Ash.  Yeah you pretty much nailed it.  :)

It was a 45 million no clone league with rookies.  Essentially a higher cap open league.  I think I was the only one who used the rookies.  LOL.

I would have like to tested my high assist team against a 45 Million Wilt/Jordan team or a 45 million version of your Curry/Shaq/Rodman team ... which is a great team BTW.  :)

The high assist concept seems unstoppable in open leagues and I've seen it work well as high as 55 million.  I hadn't seen a higher cap league with rookies so I figured this would be a good test against more traditional teams, but this obviously wasn't the league to do it.

Thanks for props.

high assist is very good at winning a lot of games.  In a playoff series, well, anything can and often does happen.  Personally, I love the concept & enjoy seeing the absurd stats, but it'd be nice if it was toned down just a little.  Like, make assists just as effective up to a certain level, then start slowly lowering the curve so that if you want to spend all your cap on 150, 160 or even 175% assist, it is effective, but just not as dumb as it is now.  Seeing 4/5 starters flirting with or above 70% efg% is just... lol.

The high ast% doesn't work in the draft leagues from what I've seen, though.  Just too hard to get the necessary guys to pull it off.  But even getting 80% gives you a nice boost, and I've begun incorporating into almost all of my team building as of late.

You're welcome.  But it's sincere ... two Curry's winning like that is just fantastic.  Totally unique.  I love it.

BTW I agree 100% with you on the high assist concept Ash.  I want to see it toned down as well.

my first 10 or so championships were based on extreme paint & perimeter play, so I'm really going back to an old strategy.  Back then I was bouncing with Barkley & Billups.  Still love both of those guys but they really made it hard to use 87-88 Barkley in OLs with the salary changes a few years back.

It's been cool seeing your squads evolve & dominate, man.  Keep up the good work.

Thanks Ash.  I owe a lot of that to you.  :)

Glad to be of some help.

In other news, I'm rollin' out a 181 ast% squad in the AM.  Almost reached the max... really only see about 7-8% more possible (but would be financially stupid).

5/19/2015 4:38 PM
181?!  Wow.

5/19/2015 8:26 PM
The way I see it, the max would be 191.8

74-75 Boerwinkle 29.1
95-96 Rose 30.7 * 0.99 or 30.4
90-91 Magic 39.9
90-91 Stockton 46.2
89-90 Stockton 46.2

just a shade under 100 usage, 11 total usage points, so you don't hit team penalty & very little individual penalty risk.  However, you don't have any scary offensive player, and that's part of what makes it really interesting to me.  You can drop 10 or 15 ast% & end up working with a much higher overall efg%, better defense & a little cheaper.  Just because you get a bigger boost doesn't necessarily mean you shoot better overall.

I've been doing some pretty intense examination of a bunch of high ast% squads over the past couple of years... there does seem to be a pretty steady increase in players' overall efg% as you you increase the ast%, but I've had 155ish teams shoot as well as 175ish overall and perform better in other categories.  It all goes back to that delicate balance.

Interesting. I'd love to see how that team does. I've never seen one without Lebron at Power Forward, and without him I think that team would struggle.  I agree that once you get to 150% the EFG performance plateaus. Still ... at 191.8 that would be great to see someone take that on.

On a side note, I will say that of the 3 high assist teams I tried in open leagues, the best performing had 90-91 Magic instead of 83-84, which seems to be the more intuitive choice because of his better efg% and defense. 90-91's lower TOV%, higher usage and better assist % seemed to have a bigger effect than I anticipated. I think those extra 3's help as well.  Small sample size I know but it was interesting how much more consistently that team performed.
