possible 2.0 user polls Topic

I've given thought to creating another user poll thread considering there has been quite a bit of grumbling lately in the forums about the lack of updates and what some (though not all) view as a lack of communication from the site admin and/or developers about the game. After the last user polls thread, not only were many of the options favored in the "cosmetic" polls changed/updated very soon afterwards, we received clarifications about some of our perceived problems in the other areas.

Surprisingly, though it seems so long ago, its only been a little more that a year since the original one...which gave me pause at first. However, given the learning curve of having put on the first one and the ability to better refine the suggestions we are recommending, it seems like it might be beneficial to do so.

So, let's take a short bit to offer, discus, and debate changes. Any advice or suggestions concerning how to administer the polls would be greatly welcomed, and if nobody really cares then we can try again later.   Peace.

I liked one of the ideas a lot from the earlier thread.

Make a "minimum" of 10 votes.  So any number of coaches can vote, no difference between 15 and 25, but once it goes under 10 you start to add computer votes.  So if only 8 humans vote add in 2 computer votes.

Also I think a good way to make sure it is not a big burden is only make it top 10.  As well as making sure it's only a few times a season such as Preseason, End of Non conf, End of NT

Heck besides like a user top 10 poll, you could do something like user awards too, such as coach of the year, team of the year, turnaround coach/team of the year.  Heck you can have preseason awards like NT favorite and your darkhorse candidate.

Being realistic and pessimistic though with only 1 change to HD since I've been here(seasons).  It doesn't matter nothing will change, even if we get every single user of HD to agree 100%.  Nothing will change.

Q: How can you tell when a user becomes a vet?

Firstly, if you say Heck one more time you're gonna be banned from this thread.

Secondly, I don't get the part about computer votes, could you please explain (how it would work and why it would be needed)?

Thirdly, I think your last sentiments really sum up why a new version of the polls are needed. Starting with your last thought, we'll never get 100% or even 75% of HD users to agree on any one thing, but presenting a concise representation about what changes are important to users can be helpful in several ways...not only as a guide post for what direction the users would like to see the game go once changes are able to be made, but highlights simple changes that can be made to help get the ball rolling. Which in my humble opinion, was the most surprising outcome of the first user polls...very shortly after their invocation, much of the 'low hanging fruit' (i.e. cosmetic changes listed in those polls) were actually updated and/or changed.

Well hell, I'll make sure not to make that mistake again! lol

Well the computer votes would just be put in to maintain the 10 vote minimum for the user polls.  The computer polls can just be the same as the current computer polls.

Honestly at this point I think anything with 60 percent or more is good and means it should probably be put to testing.  As I'm not sure what percent, but a good chunk of people not wanting change are people fine with everything as it is as they are benefitting from it, and don't want to lose that spot.  Then theres a good chunk if not a majority that just don't know what in the hell is going on.

Awesome, do I get like a shiny award, piece of paper or something for becoming a "vet"?

Oh wait WIS would actually have to work to put a "vet" status for me and we know they don't do much of that...(I'll see myself out)

I wasn't aware of any 10 vote minimum, but I'll look into the issue so we can avoid any problems.

Taking the outcomes of the last polls into consideration, I think 60% of anything would be an outright miracle, which is kinda why I separated them out quite a bit. Sometimes it can be easier to distinguish trends based on aggregates, rather than the one "hard" poll for each group. But my ears are wide open on this issue.
