the jobs process really needs fixing - both promotions and firing.  One of the biggest weaknesses in the game

that said, the excellent record you have is blemished under the current system by a few recent PIT trips.  The way it works - not saying the way it should - those hold you back from getting a top job that has just come open.  The opening will need to persist for a couple of seasons for someone with recent PITs to get it.

Should be improved in a number of ways

Job process should be simple: you qualify by prestige level. You have prestiges moving up and down and base prestige that elevates premier programs.
Any coach should be qualified for any job one notch up in prestige (B- to B, for example). If you need to build in protection from coaches changing jobs every year, you can do that. If you want to set a prestige tenure limit, you could require a coach be at the same prestige level for 3 seasons to qualify.
There are surely some flaws in this approach too but as a marketing guy, I would be horrified by the number of D1 schools with human coaches at the moment.
Err on the side of incentive.

It's not that broken.

1) Get firing going. If you are in a big six schools, you need to go to the NT, at least once every six years. If not, the firing should begin.

2) Make it a little easier, not that much, to get the job. Right now, it's one letter grade over... to get the job. Make it half a letter and it will change the job process, make it easier.

3) Longshot should be fun. It's impossible to get a longshot job right now. It's a good idea but getting a longshot could be decided by two things : 1) nobody else is applying. 2) you played the offense and the defense the team you are a longshot for is playing. You're reputation is good.

Honestly, Tarkanian D1 is pretty competitive and we keep getting more owners. A-10 is almost filled now. People are stacking in mid-majors division. There are no big six teams opened except B+ rep... and they will be Grabbed as soon as some team qualify.

Like these. You could also handle jobs like recruiting: the longer they are open, the larger the pool of eligible coaches.

Yeah, logically, a team wants to fill its position. So if nobody applies or can apply, get the best coach. It means there are only longshots, so they should be able to land it. If you can't qualify, then it's normal you never get it.

But your situation is different. I feel you should be able to get that A job. It has to be different at the top of the food chain. You have everything in your resume to justify getting that ACC job.
