The downward spiral of lack of HOF voting Topic

I'm in the 3rd season in a new league I have joined, and since I took over the team I currently run, no one has gotten into the HOF. This includes pitchers with 275+ runs and batters with 600+ HRs. It has culminated this year to the point where the top vote getter had only 14 votes and is now to the point where, for this league, I'm not even going to bother voting for the HOF. There is no point.

I wonder, why doesn't WIS change the required minimum to get in for HOF voting from a number to a percentage? If the required minimum was over 55% of the people who cast at least 1 vote for the HOF then it would allow more worthy players to get in.

For owners who see an HOF ballot and believe that none of the players nominated deserve to get voted in, there would be a button that says 'I vote for no players for this years HOF ballot' or something like that.

The way the system is set up right now, it's really depressing for lethargic leagues.

People care about the HoF?

If you really want players to get into the HOF, the AI should just automatically assign HOFers based on career numbers.  It already auto nominates them.

Apparently not enough people to get players voted in. I usually vote because I know some owners care about it, but I don't see why.

The HOF was broken for so long, it's going to take awhile for people to generate interest again.

I vote for the most vote getters in previous seasons.    And my guys.   But there is no HOF discussion in any of the worlds I'm in.

The HOF is interesting because in any given world, about half of the people do not care at all about it, and the other half are extremely interested in it. I'm basically on the don't care side, but I always make sure to vote, because it makes the other people happy.

I still think they should let each owner have his own team hall.   A Monument Park if you will.    I know, for a fact, that no one in my world care that I brought Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Jamey Cambridge back in the last season to get him his 400th homer to go with his .300 career average in hopes of getting him into the MG HOF.    He got a lot of unwarranted AB after roster expansion while I fought for a WC so I could make it happen.    That was "important", as in HBD important, to me.     And I want him in my personal HOF because, when I'm old, I might not remember it.

That's not a bad idea.

I guess Riley spoiled me as my first league. There is lots of discussion about the HOF, end of the year award voting and the all star rosters. It is a very very vocal world.

I think HBD HoFs get little interest because most owners "follow" only players who were in their franchise. This isn't like actual baseball where you have a feel for players in the league.

"Following" real baseball may mean you only watch games of your home team, but even if those are the only games you watch, you still "see" players on other teams.

Anybody with even a passing interest in the MLB know who the important players are. You don't need to be an Angels fan to know Trout is on pace to be a HoF player, etc. But a guy could go through a whole HBD career with you even "hearing" of him. Especially if he happened to avoid free agency in his prime, played in the other league from yours, or wasn't mentioned much in the chat.

I poke around the league leaders board in my world once in a while when I'm bored, and I often stumble on a guy I don't "know." I look at his card ans see he's been killing it for 6 seasons and was a #2 overall draft pick. But he was a HS player (I only scout college, so I didn't even "see" him in the draft), and he's played his whole career in the NL.

Hard to care one way or the other when that guy shows up on a HoF ballot. All that exists for me are the stats on his player card. Of course, the same argument could be made about how a younger person today can still argue about the HoF credentials of a MLB guy from the 60s who he never "saw" play personally.

Plus, there are no "intangibles" for HBD players, and those make for a lot of the passion when arguing MLB HoF credentials. "Yeah maybe he didn't have the pure counting stats, but he hustled every day and was a leader of that team, and the fans always loved him."

Mike enjoyed his sim-time with Jamey Cambridge, and I've had similar fond sim-time with my players. But I have no passion at all for Jamey myself

I'm sure nobody lies awake at night because their favorite HBD player didn't get voted into the HoF.

There have been several suggestions on how to make the process better.

As it worked before the latest patch (I don't think I've seen that, yet), it' was a pretty good measure of how active the GMs are overall.  One of several things to check & consider before joining a world, if you do that sort of thing.

I've used it as a way to try to get a world with a lot of fairly new GMs (to the game and to the world) engaged.  Give them a reason to put something on chat.  Get them to click on a menu and maybe see other stuff that's there on their way to the HoF stuff.

I think MIke's idea of teams HoF or Monument Park is great.  I doubt they'll ever do it, but it seems like it would be easy and add a drop of fun to the game.  And it would be all but impossible to do it in a way that will make a lot of people unhappy with how it works.

Much like no one cared about me and Jamey, no one would care about my personal Monument Park.   So, yeah, it would be all but impossible to make anyone unhappy with the mechanics of it.

And, of course, there would be the added bonus of an owner leaving and the new guy mocking his MP.   "LOL.   How bad has this team been to have this turd in his HOF?!?!??!?!"
