All-Star Keeper League (AKL) Topic

I’ve had this idea for a twist on fantasy keeper/progressive leagues for a while so I’m going to pitch it and see if it garners any interest.

As the league commissioner I will commit to attempting to keep an updated draft board and alpha list. As an owner participating you will commit to participating in the drafts, providing keeper lists and entering your team in a timely manner.

Please read closely, as I want all discussion about league rules to occur before the beginning of the first draft if possible. Pick a franchise city and name when entering.

The League
55 million cap
No WW, rookies, clones.
Draft any player and choose their starting season. They progress year to year until they retire or are left off keepers list and put back in the draft pool.

Initial draft
ABBABABABA
Two picks in the last two rounds.
First round: Untimed. Rounds 2-5: One hour time slots. Rounds 6-10: Half hour time slots.
I will make a schedule at the end of the first round and reserve the right to change it as needed.
Trading of future draft picks: May only trade a draft pick that is in the next draft and must receive at least a sixth round pick in return (more on that later).
I want to try out http://www.draftlotto.com/ for all draft orders and lotteries for this league. I will need a couple of owners to provide emails to confirm posted draft orders.

End of the season procedure
MVP lottery: All players ranked in the top 25 of MVP voting that played on playoff teams will be put into a lottery. The player that “wins” is granted free agency and is put back into the draft pool. The owner of the player cannot put them on their keeper list.
Draft lottery: All non-playoff teams are given an equal chance of receiving the top 3 picks in the lottery (to prevent tanking in order to receive a MVP candidate). After the lottery, ranked by worst winning percentage.

Keeper List
• Non-playoff teams must keep a minimum of four players, up to six. Playoff teams must pick four players to keep for the next season. After all keeper lists are in, we start the next draft. Must include which season they’re currently progressing into.
*Players that miss a season may be put on a IR list submitted with your keepers.

Seasonal drafts
ABABAB (AB)
Pick a player and choose a season.
First round: Untimed.
Rounds two-three: One hour timeslots
Rounds four-eight: Half hour timeslots.
I will make a schedule at the end of the first round and reserve the right to change it as needed.
Trading of picks: You may only trade picks in the current and next draft and must receive an equal amount of picks in each (6th round or better).
Hopefully the turnaround from one season to the next will be under two weeks.

Rules that I’m willing to discuss before the first draft… will change if a majority agrees. I tried to be thorough but if anyone sees a potential issue down the line please bring it up sooner rather than later.

The cap. I considered 50, 55, or no cap. I feel 55 gives enough flexibility without going overboard.
The original draft order. I have it at ABB because I think owners picking at the top have an advantage in progressives.
MVP lottery. I like the idea so it would have to take an overwhelming majority to get rid of it. Rather, is one playoff MVP candidate changing teams enough per season? Or, is there a good way to include top end players (such as Rodman, Stockton) that may not show up in MVP rankings?
Draft lottery. I think giving every non-playoff team an equal chance is the best way to go.

Future drafts?

year 1 - Camby drafted and year 2000 is used
year 2 - Camby not kept and not redrafted 2001
year 3 - Camby(IF drafted) uses what year? -- 2001 because that is where he stopped, 2002 because he is still progressing year by year, any year(my choice) ???

Good catch. There will be a IR that isn't apart of keeper list. I'll update that later.

Wait I misread this. Whenever a player goes back into the draft pool, they can start at any season. It's easier to keep track of it this way.
If this gets off the ground and a majority wanted them to continue to progress through free agency, then we could make it work.

Does that mean any *one year wonder* can be re-drafted and use the same year over and over again?

Under these rules yes.

Pros- Gives teams that missed the playoffs more players to choose from during drafts.
Cons- Some players will be in the draft pretty much every season.
