That could be partly true, but I've also seen countless times where a guard has a great rebounding game, but has also had other great rebounders on the team.
I think often times, a guard that outrebounds another guard, for instance, 7-1, on the glass,easily can be the difference between a W and an L.
I've also seen great rebounding guards not do anything all season, but I'm interested in looking more into it. I think it's an undervalued part of the game. In fact, that would be my one pet peeve, the crappy rebounding guard coming up with a 6-8 rebound performance.
