ABA/Defunct/Small Market Teams League Topic

I'm gauging interest for a league where owners would select a franchise with a reduction in cap space. I know this is not typically popular in that the stats of your team will not be flashy, but if you've ever wanted to use players like rookie ABA Moses Malone, rookie ABA Julius Erving from ABA teams like the Virginia Squires, Stars, Floridians, etc or "ancient" old school teams like the Nationals, Fort Wayne Pistons, St Louis Hawks, Cincinnati Royals etc. this would be your chance. Want to still play with the Lakers? Fine by me, but you would only be able to spend ? $42 million, most likely less. An agreed upon cap doesn't exist yet, but I've attempted to draft old school teams for another league and found 48 mil to be too much money to spend, in many cases over 20000 minutes for a team. I encourage debate on this believe it or not, but I'm firm in my belief that 48mil is much too high to make it fair across the board. Go here: http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/  to try to draft ABA/Old teams at 35 to 42 million, then try it at 48... let me know what you find... I've personally tried drafting (at the high cap) the Bobcats, Squires, Wizards, Nationals, Stars, and others and haven't had much luck.

Thoughts?

I will only start this league if I can find 8 people to weigh in/and or verbally commit.

I'm in  at  $42 with the Magic if you can get enough people.

Ok, odds are I keep the cap at 42 mil anyway unless a flood of people comes out of nowhere. Obviously I haven't spent any time recruiting for this yet so it's super chill.. I have a wife, 2 kids, and school to think about.. silly me not spending more time here right?!? = ).

I am not hijacking your thread, but since this conversation started in another thread I want to respectfully continue this conversation here.

I am interested, but I do think this cap should go up some.  Not only have you restricted the owner to one team with exclusivity, but you have also dropped the quality of the players to below that of an Open League.  In my experience I think 45 Mil is the absolute bottom.

I am not to sure how many leagues you have played in but in this climate you really need something unique.  42 Mil with a restricted player pool is tough.  It doesn't mean people wouldn't play (we used to have a 20 mil league), but people have been bemoaning the cap in OL's for years.  Everyone that is successful in those leagues drafts 17.2k to 17.5k minutes.  In your league we need to draft 19680 with no rookies.  This means we will have no pool to balance our poor players against as they get tired.  This will limit the fun of the league and by the end of the season even the winners will feel as though this is a war of attrition.

Hey hardened, I appreciate the feedback : )

I see where you are coming from and those are valid concerns...I actually share most of those concerns as well. I will try to come up with a few wrinkles and adjustments... the cap conversation is definitely not closed. Quality of players is relative though if all the players shoot 40% because they are older league players the playing field should be level but I understand this won't excite many owners but if people see 40 percent and think 50 they could easily fix that problem in their heads. In terms of minutes restrictions I think just having a minimum amount of minutes that you have to draft could take care of that problem or we could allow the use of rookies. I've gotta run but keep the conversation going and I will check back later today.

I'm cool with the low cap. Simply because the goal isn't really to build a good team. Just have enough minutes, and specialize.

I will try it...with the New Orleans/Utah Jazz.

I will say that if there are no rookies I would like the salary to be more like 44 Mil.  I think it is more realistic.  At that it is still difficult to field a team that isn't wrought with issues.

44 may be doable... I haven't been the league founder in like 10 years so can we set the cap to 43 mil for example? Any cap possible? Your support as a founding member is appreciated. I will consider 44mil.
