pull down question Topic

hope i can get some quick wisdom here

I am D3 coach pulling a D2 player.   sent 11 scouting trips and a couple letters to an undecided candidate.

This cycle - he is considering another school - but it is another D3 school.     So that coach was pulling while i was pulling.   And pulling harder, obviously.

questions -

when multiple coaches are pulling is the effect cumulative or individual?    I am thinking individual because on the search engine he still shows as a D2 prospect.

does this mean I still have to pull him on my own (ie more scouting trips and flyers) before I can safely to HV/CV?

I notice that my scouting reports are laced with comments like "based on the other schools there, I would would say we have an excellent chance of landing him"   and  "his father wouldn't leave me alone, asking me how serious we were.    When I told him we were very serious, he got very excited!"         Are these comments new?    I have about 20 seasons across worlds under my belt now and I have never seen them before.

And he is that darned excited I should be able to visit without getting stiffed . .  any thoughts?

You mentioned scouting trips and letters. But did you offer a scholarship? I made that mistake once.

also it depends on the prestige of your school and the other school if they are higher like a A/A+ they might appear on their recruit list as a D3 recruit.

and it's more important about scholarship messages/wots than what he says during st's/hv's

edit: if you haven't offered a scholarship thats another big thing putting you at a dis-adv

TO, I have an edge in prestige, also I am about half the distance, and I am close enough to get some benefit from the close to home thing.   So all the other variables I can think of are in my favor if I choose to make a battle of it.    Right now I am just trying to figure if I need to send more scouting trips to finish the pull down or I can proceed to 'normal' recruiting.

You really need to send that scholarship and see what the message says.  You might try a coach call and see what the response is.  You can tell by that response whether he's normally recruitable or not as well.

well the missing scholarship seemed to be the problem.   I sent that and I am being considered.

Humerous - response I got from this guy:  "My dad has been a fan of your rival for a long time. He would rather me go there. Do you think you can you convince him otherwise?"

This is the same player whose scouting report contained: "his dad wouldn't leave me alone and wanted to know how serious we were about his boy. I told him 'very' and he just about jumped out of the gym. One happy dude!"   lol

thx for the advice Alb, TO & Emy

deroches If your serious enough on a pulldown and send that many SV always send a scholly with them. It could save you a battle if you get on a recruit first as some people don't battle at D3.

And like theonlyis said the message that is the scholly message is the only one that matters.

Agreed.  It also often works in D2 as well.
