Ill never draft Al Rosen Topic

I like Al Rosen. I Would love to use his 1953 season. But hes way overpriced at more than 10 m. Look at these two seasons:

Player Team B PA/162 OPS# 2B/100# 3B/100# HR/100# AVG# OBP# SPD SALARY. 3B
Rosen, Al 1953 Cleveland R 724 1.030 4 0 6 .336 .417 61 $10,150,298 B+/A-
Sheffield, Gary 1992 San Diego R 618. .980 6 0 5 .337. .392 59 $6,811,299 B/B

sadly, this is only one example of a great season that doesn't get used.. There are many others. Even at a cap of $120m, is Rosen really woth an extra $3.3 m?

Who do you wish you could draft, but never will?

Rosen has a pretty big defensive advantage in that comparison, and he normalizes better.  I've used him at $140-160 million, but that's pretty much the sweet spot for him.  You need that much money for him to be worth it, and if you have much more you'll need a better bat against the pitching you'll be facing.

In addition to the defensive advantage (and Rosen is also rated A+/C+ at 1B, where Sheffield has no other def ratings), and the extra 106 PA, RC27 shows Rosen leading Sheffield 9.53 to 7.93.  It's not as if these guys are basically the same and Rosen costs more -- Rosen's quite a bit better.

I think both those comments highlight the problem with Rosen - at the cap level where you have the money to spend on him, paying for an additional defensive position isn't as important in most cases because there are likely good options for you at 1B.

it's true I don't play the higher caps. If money is no object, of course I prefer Rosen. But not if it means having to go with Mark fidrych instead of Luis Tiant. At 120 or less, I can't see it.

Uncapped leagues such as certain drafts also provide good places to use him.

He's a pretty nice prog player.  I mean, obviously his value is limited by the fact that he only plays 7 seasons.  But every one of them is a starting 3B season even in a 12-team single-season prog, and in almost any 24-team dual-season prog.  Three of the first 4 seasons he's probably the best 3B to have, and in the 5th he's a clear 2nd behind Eddie Matthews.  In nearly any prog it's great to be able to just write off an infield position for 7 seasons and not have to think about it.
