Two alternative strategies Topic

I'm sure that over the years this game has been played, people have tried most every strategy I have been able to think of in my relatively short time playing.  There are two in particular I am curious about:

1. Has anyone tried big-time platooning, doing it all the time at five or six positions?  Assuming that a pitching staff of nine or ten can be run (which seems like the biggest constraint on trying this), you could get several players with a really high rating in one of vL/vR and a really low rating in the other a lot cheaper than you could get guys who have high ratings in both.  I platoon at two positions on my team, but more out of inherited personnel than design.  Just wondering if anyone has purposefully designed their team that way.

2. Has anyone tried getting a staff of pitchers with sky-high GB ratings and then put three big-hitting Dr. Strangegloves in the OF, figuring they won't be getting many flyball chances to field?  Seems like CF who can hit are pure gold (and pricey); using this strategy might allow an owner to get away without a pure CF in terms of defensive ratings.

I have a very small version of the first strategy.

Catcher #1: smashes right handed pitching, hits for about .280 with 20 home runs in platoon. Pitch calling is only 50 and has arm stats in the low 60s.

Catcher #2: hits for average against left handed pitching. No power. Great defensive catcher with pitch calling and arm stats all in high 70s.

For games against right handed starters catcher 1 goes in. If we are winning, catcher 2 comes in as a defensive rep.

Against lefties catcher 2 starts, if we need a pinch hitter, catcher #1 takes over. Thus far it has worked fairly well.

I have platooned at 5 positions.  Hardest part was resting the other 3 guys... I ran 11 pitchers.

If I have one exceptional 2B/CF defender and one adequate one, and if they both throw righty, I'll put the stud at 2B for the GB pitchers and CF for FB pitchers.
