$50 GC challenge USAStark- one spot open! Topic

It appears that one spot may open up at ferrum in usa south tark.

the season just finishing saw us grab three of the four #1 seeds and the best conf rpi in the history of tark D3. we have one team playing for the NC and another playing for the PIT.. we also have a very lively coaches corner.. and i think we're probably in the neighborhood of $6,000 in recruiting bonus for next season, and, to be be honest we had several underachievers in the NT or that would be closer to $9,000

Ferrum has gotten a nice start toward rebuild by dukenilnil but he had to bow out after two years.

If you are interested please contact me first so i can give you details of the challenge. The $50 challenge may not be honored if a coach grabs ferrum before contacting me.

If you have questions , please sitemail me.
Or if you want to be on a list to try to get in to the challenge at a later point sitemail me

What would it take to get you to join a conference on an offer like was made in the original post?  ($50 reward for making final 4 in first 8 seasons)

im going to think about it a bit and then probably offer some incentive for anyone who wants to take the challenge beginning next season.   and i think folks could reserve those teams asap.

I'm a sucker for a good conference and a challenge.  I'll snag one.  Of course, if there are any sweeteners added later... :-)

You know OD, with the current world populations, I'm not sure how much of a benefit it is to us to fill the conference.  In effect, it's turning the 6 conference games a year that good teams will currently win better than 90% of the time into competitive games, making it harder for the established teams to continue making the tournament year in and year out.  Right now, if you go .500 against the human teams and win 5 of 6 against the sims (probably a bad year vs. sims for a decent team), you'll be 10-6 in the conference portion of the schedule.  In our conference, with a decent non-con, that kind of result has been good for at least a 4 or 5 seed most of the time.  If you go to all humans and go 8-8, even with a little bit better SOS, I don't see that climbing.

This is a little bit of a full circle scenario.  When I first made the push to fill this conference back in season 55, you were in for the first couple of seasons.  I forget where, though I could figure that out if I cared to...

DB, yup, in the conference for 2 seasons way back in season 54 or so.  Played 1 season under this ID and then one under dukenilnil1 (which I believe was the end of that ID).  Didn't put much effort into those teams and didn't do the conference any favors.  Coming back for looking for redemption and hopefully have improved a little since those seasons ways ago.

hmmmm

first of all dasher,  sorry for not makng sure that the rest of my confmates really liked the idea of an uberconference before diving in on this thing.   i just assumed that everyone would love it.  its kinda too late to put that horse back in the barn, so hopefully it will work out ok

second,   i do agree that most coaches seem to overstate the "value" of being in a great conference at the d3 level in terms of what is most profitable for your team.  in other words, the upside of extra conference cash (and in our case that will be very marginal as we are already raking in some nice $) may not really offset the downside of a more difficult schedule and more compettion for recruits.

you seem to have focused on the effect on NTseeding and possibly making the NT at times... i really dont see that as being the big issue.  shouldnt be that hard to make a non con that will go 10-0 in your off years and then you just gotta win 4 or 5 conf games.  that shouldnt be a problem.  its not like this is going to be a conference full of oldresorters and gillespies.

the issue you didnt raise is the one that concerns me .   recruiting is going to be crazy.   might not be so bad except the conference to our north is highly populated with good coaches too.

but i weighed that out and felt like it would be really cool to get 12 very good humans in a conference and mix it up.  and i think that is going to happen.  sorry if you would prefer that it didnt... i do see where you are coming from,  but i think this will turn out to be alot of fun.  give it a chance

i think its pretty clear - for virtually any situation in d2/d3, being in a super conference makes it harder to build top tier programs and harder to win championships. but, its also a heck of a lot of fun, when conference achievements are a big deal and you get those rivalries going. so many regular seasons are boring, but when you risk going 9-7 with a borderline top 10 team because you auto piloted through conference, seems to really spice things up.

so, i think it just comes down to what people are looking for, if you are trying to move up, or really focused on some objective, it may not make sense. if you are looking for a long term situation or want to get better as a coach, its great. all that said, i think its really stupid to consider pulling bonus money for d2/d3 conferences.

i think you are OK not asking oldave - most people want fuller conferences, and folks trying to move up quickly won't be around long enough for the new folks to build their programs up, anyway. i think its generally appreciated when people go out and make some effort to fill spots, never heard of it being a problem.

To clarify, I'm not at all opposed to filling the conference.  I'd much rather it be full.  Just pointing out the ramifications before you go throwing money at it...

Heck, I only joined this conference in the first place because, at the time, I was able to recruit other coaches to fill it then.

ok  cool

and,  for what its worth,  the plan is not to lose the money!

It is POSSIBLE, that the challenge will re-open for Averett.  but depends on approval of league and also is possible previous owner is just late re-upping.

The conference is USA south  Tark. D3.
full of great coaches (one possible opening at Averett)
Best conference in Tark D3 and seems destined to widen that gap.

To win the $50 gc, (and again i cant offer this for averett or any other possible school until i get league approval)
Must win CT within first 7 years at the school (it was 8 seasons for the 4 that joined last year)

Averett has been human coached and has  a few decent pieces in place.

Sitemail me if you are interested.

Tark is currently in jobs period. (for coaches who have coached in Tark) that will last through thursday at midnight.

new coach signup period is Friday jan29 and Saturday jan30 until 4pm with recruiting starting at 6pm saturday
