Need 1 for 1973 Career Progressive League-filled!! Topic

We need 1 owner for a Diamond Legends (Career) Progressive League which started in 1961 and will soon be advancing to the 1973 (it's 13th) season. Details on the teams available will be provided in the following posts.

In the Diamond Legends (or Career) WIS leagues, players use their average career statistics. In this specific league, that will mean using their average career statistics in a progressive from their first year of eligibility starting in 1961 through their last year of WIS eligibility.
General Managers must be able to deal with a salary cap of $80 million. Owners must use the actual ballpark used by their franchise in 1971.

Annual drafts will be in inverse order of finish except that for the first round only there will be a random weighted lottery among the 4 teams with the worst record (4 chances for the team with the worst record, 3 chance for 2nd worst etc.). The tiebreaker will be run differential (runs scored less runs allowed) with the team with the worst run differential drafting higher.

The first team available is the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers finished 3rd in the NLW in 1971 with a record of 73-89 and currently are 4th in the NLW with a record of 51-73 with 38 games remaining in the 1972 season.

The $80 million salary cap has resulted in a well balanced league with only 1 team in the 11 year history having won more than 100 games and only 3 teams having won fewer than 60 game. So far in 1972 only one team is better than .600 and only 1 team is worse than .400. Three of the divisions have very close races and only 1 team is more than 20 games behind the division leader.

The Dodgers had only no players retire after the 1972 season so the amount of salary available for draft picks is only $793,830 plus the salaries of any players cut. Based on the current standings the Dodgers would draft 2nd in the 1973 draft and it is highly probable that they will be one of the 4 teams eligible for the draft lottery. Some players will need to be cut in order to have money available for one or 2 of the outstanding players available in the draft.

Following are the career average batting statistics for the Dodgers 13 returning hitters for the 1973 season:

Primary needs for the Dodgers are 3B, SS and P. Note that either Toe Torre or Rusty Staub can play 1B.

The second team available is the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds finished 3rd in the NLE in 1971 with a record of 86-76 and currently are 2nd in the NLE with a record of 64-63 with 35 games remaining in the 1972 season.

The Reds have been taken-only the Dodgers are now available

The $80 million salary cap has resulted in a well balanced league with only 1 team in the 11 year history having won more than 100 games and only 3 teams having won fewer than 60 game. So far in 1972 only one team is better than .600 and only 1 team is worse than .400. Three of the divisions have very close races and only 1 team is more than 20 games behind the division leader.

The Reds had only one player (C Jack Hiatt) retire after the 1972 season so the amount of salary available for draft picks is only $1,010,747 plus the salaries of any players cut. Based on the current standings the Reds would draft 9th in the 1973 draft. Some players will need to be cut in order to have money available for one or 2 of the outstanding players available in the draft.

Interested owners will be given access to the league's private forum, which has preliminary lists of available players (including 1971 rookies and previously undrafted players but NOT including any 1971 cuts), and a table of 1971 pre-cut roster totals and pre-cut available funds for draft picks for all 16 teams.

Please indicate your interest below and/or site-mail me with any questions you may have about the career format.

In my opinion this is the best draft to date since the inception of the league, with superstars Mike Schmidt, Dave Parker, Dave Winfield, Cecil Cooper, Randy Jones, J.R. Richard, Frank Tanana and many other excellent players.

The first task of a new owner will be to decide how many (and which) players to cut to make sufficient salary room to draft 2-5 new players.

I would be interested in the Cincinnati team with the following questions.

1/2/2016 8:34 PM
1. The player would use their same career stats for every season played?
2. How many rounds in the draft each year?
3. Hopefully there is no DH?
4. This is the 1973 season? You mention 1971 in several of the above posts.

1. Yes, the same career stats are used every season. I show the retirement year so you can be aware of exactly how long you will have the player. Actual stats will still vary from season to season for reasons mentioned above.
2, Depends on the number of retirements and cuts. In the 1972 draft, most owners drafted 4-6 players but one owner drafted 13 (that was highly unusual).
3. There is currently no DH. We may consider a DH in the future but that will require a vote of the membership.
4. Yes, this is the 1973 season. I copied some material from a prior season ad and faile to change all the dates.
