reorganizing the conferences would open multiple cans of worms

We seem locked in 2002 or 2003 ish forever

especially with the # of teams in conferences are so different it would be impossible to keep the current schedule system as well and not making as confusing as hell. And the number of games would increase in conference play(although I'd love to have non-conf increased to 12 or 15 games.)

They COULD shift to 14 team conferences and change the schedules so that you have 7 per division, then then you would play: 6x2=12, plus 7x1=7 .. so 19 conference games and they could either have 7 non conference games (for 26 total) or more if they bump the OOC schedule.  If they added 2 games to go to 28, then they could  have 9 OOC and 19 Conference games.  Then they could realign conferences to be closer than they are now.

The problem is, you would have to add 4 teams to the Big12 and to the Big East.

But whatever they do, they would need divisions of the same size to easily set comparable schedules, etc.  Since that is the case, I am fine with leaving it as it is now.  Both are not the same as IRL and it currently works as is, so adding a change complicates things and does not give us the same as IRL.

Now, trying to have variable sized conferences playing different numbers of OOC and Conference schedules would indeed be very difficult and confusing.

It's doable, other college basketball sims do it.  I think the big difference is allowing us to control the whole OOC schedule.  In theory with other sims you can change the scheduled games, but the engine generates the whole schedule first.

To make it realistic then you'd have things like the Ivy not having conference tourney, etc.  Plus at this point the conferences are changing on an almost yearly basis.  I don't mind being stuck in 2002-03ish era.  I don't mind the even numbers of conference as they are now.

what other basketball sims(no serious I've googled)

I like what hughes said about moving to 14 team conferences(we can just pretend a few teams moved to the Big 12.

I'd love to see 6x2 and 7x1 for  19 conf games and then keep or add 2 more non conf games to make it 29/31 regular season games I believe it adds 1-2 more CT  ames so (and whjo gets byes) 5/6 possible ct games and 6 possible NT games making 40-43 total games possible.

If we could just get updated prestiges every 5ish years that would be cool.  Maybe any big conference changes, like switching Utah into the Pac for like Hawaii

I think most people would like the conferences to be updated to some degree, but the biggest problem that everyone points out is moving teams that have user coaches. It would kinda suck to be a Fresno St. and get moved out of a Big 6 conference after working to get there.

Or being in a full and active conference you like and being moved to a near empty one?

are most people actually wanting fresno state and hawaii or just take the as they are the only options.

wouln't utah be an actual help to the conf and utah in its real conf?

The sim I had played the most was on PS3.  But there was ... was it Wolverine studios that made a pc based sim?  I tried the trial of that back in the day, but I don't remember how much they let you change schedule there.

updates to prestige over time would be nice, but I think after a certain point the in game prestige is self correcting.  Fresno becomes a desirable gig just because it's B6, and that's always been part of this sim.

you played a ps3 based sim that changed around the in game conferences as real life conferences changed? did you have to pay for DLC or something? also, was that ps3 sim just you an a ton of sim players, or did you actually get to play with real people? it would be much easier to take on this challenge if it wasn't a bunch of real people.

Oh no gil, the conference didn't change, but you could change your OOC schedule.  There was the opportunity to move up/get kicked out of your conference at the end of the season based on performance though.  It's NCAA Basketball '10.  just you vs sims, so definitely not the same as this, but I think the point of scheduling could carry over.

Conference play pretty much has to be generated by the SIM always.  To an extent, in RL this is based on conference you're in, here it's just the math of the even conferences of 12 teams each.  OOC is the flexible part.  Obviously here we get 10 games that we can schedule, or the SIM will choose after conf play, but it's just those 10 games.

Two different things going on here, scheduling and conferences.  I don't think WIS *can* change conferences just because of the even number of teams setup they have.  As far as scheduling, how many games a team plays is fixed for us, but not always with other engines.  For example that game had the early season showcase events (Maui Classic, etc) that some people try to replicate here.

It's mildly annoying to me that it's always 26 games here, then CT then NT/PIT, but I'm used to it by now.  I don't think there's any value at all to shift things so more games are played.  It would be nice to adjust conferences maybe, but it's just an even number thing here and I don't think it can ever change unless even more guts of the sim engine get re-worked.  I'm fine with the conferences as is and the number of teams being even.  It's a known commodity now that Fresno State is Big6 job and that Butler means nothing in this game.

I actually kind of like the prestige factor in this game.  We can argue that it's out of date based on individual teams, but it's nice that it moves over time based on performance.
