Release player with multi years left on contract Topic

I was just told I could release a player on one of my teams and I'd only be responsible for $500,000 per year for the last 2 years left on his contract (if he's not picked up by someone else). That can't be right! I'd be screwing this guy out of like $12M. Please advise!

The truth is that if he is picked up on waivers he will be paid 327,k per season remaining on his contract by the claiming team. The releasing team is on the hook for the entire remainder of the contract. You were right to be suspicious.

If the person who told you this is in one of your leagues, I'd refrain from listening to anything he tries to tell you.  Either he's incredible ignorant about the game, or he was intentionally trying to get you to royally screw yourself.
