If you have an old school closer like Goose Goosage or Rollie Fingers, should use you assign them as "Closer A" to get your money's worth out of them or should you designate them as "Setup A" or "Long A"?

I almost always have those guys as Setup A, but it depends on the rest of your staff...  Closer is almost definitely wrong, though.  It would be very hard to get 70+ innings out of a closer in SLB, even with "only use closer in save situations" unchecked.

It's difficult to get their full value using them as Closer A due to the number of RL IPs coupled with "tired from game use" fatigue following an appearance. I can get by with 40-50 real life closer IPs. When using Goose (I only use Fingers when he fits in a specific theme concept), he is set to "Set Up A". I only use Long A for pitchers who have 3.5 - 4.5 (or so) IP/G.

Closer
Uncheck "use closer in save situations only"
Availabilty 8th inning
Pitch count something like 30-35

The really tough guys are the ones who only have 1.2 or 1.3 IP/G. Those guys need to be setup.

^^^ this ^^^

I'm using '82 Quisenberry(137 RL IP) in juice6's tournament

thru 122 g's, set exactly as jfranco77 states above w/pull setting at 1

62 g's 94 IP (and his #'s are slightly above RL, but more than formidable)
