Is this pitcher worth keeping? Topic

so now i am trying to figure out what to do with this guy.

Andruw Crummack (RHP, dur29/Sta90)
his ratings, starting with control, through pitch 5:
87     46     67     38     30     75     73     52     60     46

what I see is a mediocre flyball pitcher who is exposed against lefties.   Granted, excellent control, and he is a workhorse.   What the computer sees must be something better because it wants to slot this guy as the #1 or #2 starter.    I lost my arbitration with him and am paying 1.4 mil, I was gonna cut him if I couldn't trade him.    But just to see what the computer sees, I have started him three times in spring training.  pitching line in 3 starts:

14.0     12h     3r     1er     1w     1hr     9k     .235     .264     .314     0.93whip     0.64era

Am I missing something?

The computer "optimizes" in a way that WAY, WAY overvalues stamina and durability.  Don't trust the computer at all. And Spring Training stats are meaningless.

Crummack is a very reasonable mopup man; he's durable, and he's better (not very much) than what you can find lying around in Rule 5.  His career ERA is much higher than I would have expected-- but I'd have expected 4.8 or so, so not great.  Also, because of the one terrible split, he'll be a little better as a reliever, since the sim aligns pinch hitters' handedness worse mid-game than owners do at the beginning of games.

I, personally, would have cut him rather than go to arb with him and pay him $1.4M.  But he's OK as the last pitcher on your staff.  Don't arb him next season, though. Release him instead.

The computer loves high STA games like this for the top of the rotation. As for Spring Training, I wouldn't pay too much attention to it.
I think your assessment of his talent is pretty good. Might be useful for the right team that just needs someone who can pitch every 5th day or any team as a mop up guy.

All depends on the park. My one team is San Diego in the NL. He is a very cheap SP5 if I had him for that squad. Being in the AL, his use will be limited. I think I'd still keep him as a MOP-UP guy and only let him come in when you are losing. If he asks more then 2 mil next year, drop him.
