1) Fix the longshot application so that people get the job at the last second, if nobody else (qualified) applied. It would at least help both mid-majors and Big Six teams. It takes too long to be able to move up from low to mid to big six. It's a rebuild everytime, don't forget. It takes 4 years at low (I experienced it at IUPUI and MSVU), then if you move to mid-major (count six years if you are in a competitive conference and four if you are alone). I think the job application should consider where you play and where you played too. Say you already burned the low D1 conference you were in, why can't you get the same job you had while rotting in last place in your new gig?
2) I see a lot of people drop down from Big Six gigs. They acknowledge themselves that they are struggling and want to start over and test some other stuff before getting back in. I am all for firing but give people a chance to get out of the basement. I am at Clemson, started at C... Third year.... And the rebuilt is not complete until I play the fourth year, which means, It takes time to get a basement team, in big six, out of the basement... All the programs around me are either A- or A+... Mostly. Or the other teams are a bit ahead. Making firing works logically, with the set up we have right now, is not that simple. I'd say when you have 10 seasons without PIT and NT, fire. 15 seasons without NT, and no real success in the PIT like a final four or more, FIRE.
3) So if you want to really get the thing more logical, you need to let teams like Clemson, get a stud from time to time because we promised a start, we promised minutes, we are the only team that will start the kid and make him THE PLAYER on our squad. I don't believe a top recruit would prefer to sit on the bench at Duke or get redshirting while he would be starting as a freshman at Clemson. Something needs to be made. Top players do need to have expectations. Why? They are thinking NBA. A freshman, a top player in the nation, needs to showcase his abilities. Why would he become the third PG on a top team and play 5 minutes... Then 12 as a Soph? No reasons.
4) Make all top 50 recruits recruitable from everywhere. That way, big six teams will battle.
5) Fix recruit generation.
I truly think it's what will make D1 more enjoyable. I don't mind the base prestige. It could come phase II.
