I just took over a new program and I want to cut 3-4 players. Is that too many and what exactly will that do to me in terms of job security and reputation?

Its for you to decide if it is too many, the fact you "want" to seems you have decided that. Your job prestige is only effected by cutting players YOU recruited not the ones you inherited. Be advised that on occasion, rare but does occur, when cutting players sometimes another un cut player will leave (sim friendship).

Also be aware that you don't get scholarship money this season for the players you cut, so you would have to fill those slots while operating within the existing recruiting budget that you have.

Prestige isn't affected by cutting players, reputation is. And it CAN go down even if you cut sim-recruited players (it's happened to me multiple times), but it's a minimal hit, maybe down to A or A- if you cut 3 or 4, and you'll recover that rep in 2 seasons.

I didnt realize there was a difference between "job prestige" and reputation. Perhaps Coaches Prestige would have been a better choice.

I'm sure we are saying the same thing. On your team's home page you have 4 things with letter grades: home court, team prestige, coach reputation, and coach loyalty. There isn't a 'coach' or 'job' prestige listed anywhere.
