weird OT timeout thing Topic

4th OT (!) last night:
02:16 107-112 Jesus Gonzalez grabs the board
02:16 107-112 Chaminade calls a full timeout (none remaining)
02:08 107-115 Bobby Stukes hits a 3 from the right corner
02:08 Seattle calls a full timeout (6 full remaining) 107-115

Not only is it funny that I've Pete Gillen-ed all my TOs while Roy Williams over there sits on his, but it seems like 6 TOs must be wrong... is it just rolling over all the OT timeouts you get? This is wrong in RL ball, no?

I submitted a ticket, but wanted to see if there's something I've missed here.

"Each team acquires one additional 75-second timeout at the beginning of each overtime period."

So in theory this could have happened? Four OT's means four additional full TO's. If they had three of their full four roll over from the second half, then that would be 7 (they just used one, now it's down to 6). This is assuming they used only one full timeout from tip-off through to that moment in the 4th OT though.

I've always thought it's weird this game uses the non-media timeout version of the timeout rules.

Most levels of NCAA basketball now use media timeouts, not just the TV games - in that case the extra timeout is a 30, not a 75. RL you get 3 fulls and 2 30's if you take 0, 1 or 2 media timeouts per half, or you get 3 30's and one full if you take 3 or 4.

They're probably using older timeout rules as it is. Wouldn't necessarily expect them to use the media timeout version, as those rules were only recently adjusted.

The media timeout rules have been in place since well before the game was written. The main difference is that they were really only used in D-I back then and not all games, where now all D-I games use it, most D-II and even a lot of D-III also.
