I'm a new player as have a rule 5 question.

If I want to draft someone exposed from another team, do I have to protect less than the full 40 on my team prior to the draft or do I protect 40 then designate someone after I draft a player in the rule 5?

I'm a little confused on the process.

You have to have less than 40 on your 40 man and have cap space for any selected player.
