Community College choices??? Topic

Just finished recruiting in Phelan and had new recruits added to my roster. I noticed that 4 guys on my Summary did not sign with anyone an are now going to community colleges. What I don't understand is the system logic that assigns 3 of them to "community" colleges that are so far from home (700, 1000, and 1300 miles away!)...does this make sense to anyone?

FYI: I had been recruiting locally, so none of these guys was more than 200 miles from my campus initially.

I also noticed that there were significant changes in the GPA for all these kids (3 went up; 1 went down). Why would their decisions to attend "community" college affect their academic performance???

While they are community colleges, Junior College basketball recruiting is actually a fairly big deal. There are some JUCOs that are powerhouses and kids will go across the country to go to these junior colleges because they'll get extra exposure. They'll also do this because their academics may have been bad, but you get a fresh start once you hit junior college.

I honestly didn't know JUCO programs recruited like that...thanks for the info!
However, I would still think that recruits would be LESS likely to travel across country for a Junior College program than for a "regular" university.
Note: I really wish I had taken better notes so I would know if the reported locational preferences on these guys matched up to how far they traveled to play at a community college.

Also, it wouldn't exactly explain the GPA issue. I limit myself to recruiting only guys with high GPAs...why would one of them actually decline to a 2.0???

As 18 or 19 year olds the first time away from home? Girlfriend dumped them, they started drinking, their roommate kept a steady supply of chronic in the dorm...all of the above... For the purposes of the game, it's random. I've seen ineligibles go JuCo with a 2.2 HSGPA and finish with a 3.9 or 4.0. That changes their effective HSGPA for the game. Their HSGPA is the factor that affects how quickly they learn Team IQ.
